Rekhaben is not less then a Hero for dwellers of Lakshminagar area of Vadodara city. Mr. Ashok (Anganwadi supervisor) met this lady before 3 years. The supervisor learnt that Rekhaben and her husband both are specially-abled. Rekhaben was suggested to send her children to Anganwadi and be benefited from the government support for children. The elder son, Krishna joined Anganwadi in the year 2012. On joining, Krishna was identified in the Red zone under the category of children who are malnourished. Over a period of time with the regular health check up and involvement of Krishna in number of Anganwadi activities, Krishna’s status was shifted from Red zone to Yellow zone.

The Dhanlakshmi nagar Anganwadi Centre runs under the strict yet affectionate eye of her Worker, Kokilaben. She teaches them through rhymes and songs how to dress for school, the proper way to eat their meals using the correct utensils and how to behave when they are in the AWC. Complete with actions and hand motions, the children enthusiastically follow her lead reciting the songs and poems. She is akin to a mother to the young beneficiaries enrolled in the AWC, her method of disciplining is neither harsh nor strict, and she uses a firm voice to tell the children how to quietly sit The children are well-behaved and they listen to Kokilaben and follow her instructions readily.

The BCC staff conducting the parents meeting in the area, is one of the activities supported by United Way Baroda. During the meeting, Kokilaben happened to meet the grand mother of Het. Het is 3.5 years old Anganwadi child. The grand mother of het explained the health problems of Het to the Anganwadi worker. Het underwent an acute issue of malnourishment. Het could not eat anything and vomiting was one common symptom of his health issues during the early childhood.

The Anganwadi worker Kokilaben suggested the parents of Het to visit a hospital. On number of requests, the Het was referred to a Pipadiya Dhiraj general hospital of Waghodiya. Het had to undergo a treatment at the hospital for a long period. Besides this, the Anganwadi worker ensured that het regularly be present in angawadi which earlier was not the case due to Het’s health problems. When kokilaben took personal interest in the case, The Het weighed only 7.300 grams and today the weight of Het scales around 10.7 grams. This remarkable change and development has been possible due to constant efforts of Anganwadi worker and supply of nutritional food itmes with other Anganwadi activites that makes impact on the over all upbringing of the child at Anganwadi centers.
