Industry_route will appear in the Table of Contents. To create the line on the map, click the line button tool. Click the map where the journey starts, for the Industry, the homeport was West Dublin. To find West Dublin, make the Industry_log layer active and drag it to the top of the Table of Contents, then click on the Identify Button, now click on the points that mark locations. When you locate West Dublin, make a mental note of where it is. To continue the line, make many clicks on the map. The route will be drawn in black as seen below in Figure 14.

You can change the color of your digitized line because this is a temporary color. Don’t forget to save your project! After saving the project, MyWorldGIS automatically makes the new layer Industry_route, permanent. To change the color of the line, double click the layer to open the Edit Appearance of Layer window, change the color and line width. See Figure 15 below. In the Layer Menu, choose Save Layer As, name it Industry_route and put it in Shipwreckdata/Created.
Now, you will digitize the route of the Providence, leaving from Philadelphia. To identify Philadelphia, you will make the City_Harbours layer active and use the Identify button. To predict the path of the Providence; consider all the variables, sea ice extent, surface currents, wind, shipping lanes and remember that the Industry was found 700 nautical miles east of the coast of Nova Scotia. t. Digitize the path of the Providence following the same steps as the Industry. Name this layer, Providence_route. Edit the appearance and save the layer.
