OTHER INFORMATION MYLOR FAMILY 1 (continued)
Notes:
-
Creed parish is an agricultural area with no village. Passing through the parish is the Falmouth to St Austell turnpike which was built with a large bridge (Grampound = Grand pont). Close to the bridge a small village developed (Grampound) that held most of the parish's population, later a chapel was built there and Grampound parish created despite the short distance to Creed parish church. Creed is directly between St Stephens and Mylor parishes.
-
“I heard John Tregenza, late parish sexton (father of the present sexton) say that his grandmother was lived in a house on that part of Trefusis called Cragoes and that the minister of the parish lodged with her.”
A quote from the Mylor Parish Clerk in October 1873 found in ‘The History of the Parish of Milor’ 1873 by Olivey page 113
[there were three sextons JOHN 1756, JOHN 1787 and JOHN-BEELS 1819 the grandmother must have been ANN née Shole]
-
The vessel Helena Tregenza was built by Massey’s of Portreath as a two-mast schooner which it remained. Operated for 45 years of UK coastal trading. There are three original paintings as follows: one by Reuben Chappell held in National Maritime Museum Greenwich (C:\Users\Jonathan\Desktop\Trellis Cottage a.jpgHelena Tregenza photo PX9977[1].JPG ), two by Le Clerk the Antwerp ‘pier head’ paintings held by John C. Seagrove. Schooner lost 17NOV1916 at 50 degrees north 4 degrees west 6 miles off Tintagel Head. Information from John Seagrove (son of LILIAN Tregenza Mylor family 4) who is writing a book on the schooner and so has further information. He is interested in contacting living relatives of JOHN-LEAR and particularly of HELENA Barber née Tregenza her son Cyril Barber (married solicitor of Liverpool) and daughter Ethel (married). The table below gives some activities of the schooner
