Built in 1747 by William Shirley, Royal Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony for 15 years, the mansion was occupied by, among others, Minutemen during the Siege of Boston, China trade Captain James Magee, and William Eustis, the 10th Governor of Massachusetts.
