16 – 18. Specimens requiring review by a medical review officer based on Department of Defense policy a. Upon receipt of a positive drug test result that is reviewable based on DoD policy, USAR commanders will (1) Notify Soldiers within 45 calendar days of receipt of the DoD reviewable positive drug test result. (2) Document the notification procedure used. (3) Upon receipt, forward the medical documentation to command ASAP manager. b. If unable to notify the Soldier telephonically or in person, commanders will (1) Mail the notification by certified mail with return receipt requested. (2) Complete an affidavit of mail. (3) Forward the affidavit of mail and return receipt to the command ASAP manager office. c. If the notification memorandum is mailed and the Soldier fails to acknowledge receipt, or to submit a reply within 45 calendar days, administrative separation actions will proceed after ASAP manager coordination with MRO. d. Soldiers must provide a legitimate prescription information or medical documentation within 60 calendar days after receiving notification on a presumptive positive drug test result to the commander. The commander will forward documentation to command ASAP manager e. Requests for an extension for good cause maybe submitted to the ASAP manager for approval. f.Unless an extension is granted, failure to deliver the proper documentation within 60 calendar days of the date of notification of a positive drug test that is reviewable based on DoD policy and the MRO will constitute a determination of illegitimate use. g. MRO evaluations will be completed and entered into DAMIS within 60 calendar days of lab certification.
