Department of Transportation followup testing Unannounced or alcohol testing that is required for any employee who has committed a DOT drug or alcohol regulation violation, and who seeks to resume the performance of safety-sensitive functions. At a minimum the employee must undergo six followup tests within the month period following the employee’s resuming the performance of safety-sensitive duties. These tests are not to be confused with followup testing that is actually part of the counseling or rehabilitative process. Other tests such as random or post-accident testing cannot be submitted for the required followup testing.
