Alternative Paths, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency established in 1989 in Medina County to provide an array of outpatient behavioral healthcare services. As our mission states, Alternative Paths, Inc. is dedicated to providing an array of quality behavioral healthcare services designed to meet the needs of residents of Medina County and surrounding areas.

When the agency opened in 1989, the core services focused on a primary client population with severe mental health diagnoses such as depression, bi-polar disorder, and schizophrenia. Alternative Paths, within all programs, helps consumers gain the highest level of functioning and independence possible given their own individual presentation of symptoms and life circumstances. We recognize that for many of our clients, their mental illness has a lifelong impact, but we support and work within the recovery model promoting resiliency and attainment of personal goals. The belief is that recovery is a personal process that involves overcoming the negative impact of a psychiatric disability despite its continued presence. Activities include Psychiatric, Adult, Assessment, Case Management, Intake, Community Organization, and Crisis Intervention. PAGE 16

Quaker-related social action organization that educates advocates and organizes on political, social, economic, and justice issues—including issues related to race/racism, campaign finance reform, and the threat of corporations of wealth to democracy and self-determination. An important focus for students is the time bank. Time banks are local service exchange systems in which time is the unit of currency. For every hour you spend doing a service for a time bank member, you receive that much in time credits that can be spent on services you need from fellow members.

In Akron, AFSC educates and organizes residents of Northeast Ohio around issues of economic and political justice, advocating for:

  • The national Move to Amend proposed constitutional amendment to abolish corporate “personhood” and money as speech

  • Sane and humane federal, state, and local budget priorities and tax policies

  • Creating and nurturing local economic alternatives, like the Akron Time Bank

In this work to change culture, laws, and the U.S. Constitution, AFSC holds forums, workshops, community meetings, mass actions, citizen petition campaigns, and meetings with public officials.

Top of Form

The Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties is a nonprofit organization serving sexual assault victims and co-survivors in Summit and Medina Counties in northeastern Ohio. We do not charge for any of our services. All survivors of rape and sexual assault, both male and female, are potential survivors regardless of race, religion, financial status, educational background or sexual preference. To honor survivors' confidentiality, the Rape Crisis Center collects demographic information anonymously.

RCC staff members have received specific training on diversity and underserved populations and are ready and able to respond to the needs of the diverse cultures found in our community. Males, seniors, non-English speakers and the mentally and physically disabled are survivors that often need the most intensive services.

However, when it comes to rape and sexual assault, the truly underserved populations are the vast number of survivors who never report the crime committed against them. To help these individuals, the Rape Crisis Center maintains an active and engaged Outreach Coordinator to educate the public and help remove the stigma associated with sexual assault. In addition, many victims seek medical attention but choose not to notify the police; we collaborate with local hospitals to ensure these survivors can still be reached by our services if they want them while keeping their anonymity.
