General Sponsorship Principles

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Sponsorship program will generate critical resources to promote the Mission, Vision and Values of the university by establishing partnerships with well-matched organizations wishing to benefit from association with UW-Madison Facilities, Events and Activities.



WI Union Sponsorship Opportunities

All sponsorship acknowledgements in Wisconsin Union Buildings and Virtual Domains must refer specifically to the Union Event, Activity or Service that is the basis of the Sponsor relationship to the Wisconsin Union.

Sponsorship acknowledgement should not overshadow recognition that all programs and events at the Wisconsin Union are accomplished only through the dedication and commitment of volunteers and staff.

Attachment E: Relationships Not Governed by Sponsorship Rights Agreement


1. WI Athletics is NOT part of this contract.

2. UW Credit Union



Due to the Special Relationship between UWCU and the Wisconsin Union ALL Current and Future Agreements between these two parties will be managed by the Wisconsin Union Development Office.

Additionally, UWCU supports several other campus partners. All agreements between UWCU and campus partners will be managed by those partners directly.

5. Beer/Alcoholic Beverage Distributors



Due to the long-standing relationship between the Wisconsin Union Directorate and Beer Distributors, all current and future agreements will continue to be managed by the Wisconsin Union.

The interaction of sales venues and alcohol distributors is highly regulated. This area is also a subject of intense campus sensitivity. Due to these factors sponsorships from alcoholic beverage distributors cannot be considered except under very specific circumstances subject to prior approval.

6. American Family Insurance – UW Partnership/insurance



Due to the existing relationship between UW-Madison and American Family Insurance, all current and future agreements between UW-Madison and AFI will be managed by UW-Madison. Additionally, no sponsorships may be sold to any other insurance company.

7. Financial services, including campus banking, ATMs, credit and debit cards, financial literacy/education, and student loans.



Due to an existing agreement between UW-Madison, WFAA and UW Credit Union, no credit and/or debit cards may be offered as part of any sponsorship.

8. Abodo/Off-campus housing listing services/aggregators



Due to an existing agreement between Campus and Visitor Relations and Abodo, no off-campus housing listing services may be offered as part of any sponsorship.

9. Fresh Madison Market/Gift Baskets

Due to an existing agreement between the Parent and Family Program and Fresh Madison Market, no gift baskets may be offered as part of any Campus and Visitor Relations-related sponsorship.

10. Rec Sports Pillar Partners



Recreational Sports is seeking six “pillar partnerships.” They are currently in conversation with the following organizations for those partnerships: American Family, UnderArmour, UW Health. Rec Sports will manage any/all potential pillar partnerships, as well as any sponsorships that result.

11. Items Governed by Contracts Awarded through UW Purchasing (see below for examples)

Soft Drink Beverage Distributors


  • Recognition, Consideration and Restrictions falling Under the Preferred Vendor Agreement Awarded through UW Purchasing

  • Additional Beverage Sponsorships may be pursued, and will be covered under the terms of the Sponsorship Rights Agreement, provided they do not conflict with the Preferred Vendor Agreement


EXCLUSIONS

Unacceptable sponsorship. The university has the right to and will refuse sponsorship from unacceptable sources, or with an unacceptable message. For example, a sponsorship is unacceptable that (1) is in conflict with university policies; (2) adversely affects the university’s reputation; (3) appears to create an endorsement by the university of a particular company, product, political candidate or position regarding public policies; (4) is considered to contain obscene, indecent or profane material; (5) ridicules, exploits or demeans persons on the basis of their age, color, creed, disability, national origin, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation; or (6) promotes tobacco products.



COMPLIANCE

No images of current student athletes may be used as part of a sponsorship.
