A report released by Wider Opportunities for Women tries to go beyond traditional measurements like the poverty line and minimum wage to show what people need to earn to achieve a basic standard of living. The report includes Basic Economic Security Tables (BEST)
One working parent with one infant needs $46,000/year
One working parent with two children needs $57,000
A family with two adults and two kids needs $ 67,000

Roughly 270,000 workers in Austin metro area do NOT meet the minimums. Most are driving cars they can’t afford. So either they are not saving for retirement or they are not paying for health insurance, or some other critical need.
