Employment Density & Trip Purpose

— Only 80,000 jobs in dense city center. (zips 01 and 05) Another 420,000 jobs are in low density areas out side city center and in Travis county.

A Total of 880,000 jobs are in metro area.

The CBD + UT, is only 10% of all jobs in the metro area.

80% of trips are not work related.

Looking at trips by purpose at right we

See that only 18% are work related.

Most are short errand trips.

Combining information about employment density and trip purpose we can see the trip berg :

TRIP BERG
Only 4% of trips are visible to Conventional transit planners. The visible tip is Home to work with the job in high density. Just below that are 16% of trips, which are home to work , with a job in low density. And then below that are non work trips which make up 80% of all trips. Conventional Transit is geared to serve 4% of trips. CMT will serve a much larger fraction of trips.
