Van pool groups could congregate at the TC and then catch the Van to a distant large employer.

They get to the TC by taxi-van and hence do not need to own or park a car.

If they miss the van pool home they can take taxi-van & exp bus.
The van pool would be a desirable option because it would be faster and cheaper than taking an express bus. There would be fewer stops and transfers.

Why should we consider van pools as part of CMT ?

Van Pools

Van pools have unpaid driver labor
They have the lowest subsidy per rider and cost per passenger mile
Austin has 150,000 workers at large employers
That would 30,000 new riders if 20% of the 150,000 use van pool
Capital metro could buy 3000 vans for $ 75 million, to serve 30,000 riders

A cellular system can serve trips other than just home to work :

A Transit Center could be Near Shopping Center, we could have :

Grocery & Drug Store at shopping center
Day care, Pre School, after school care, all at Community Center (CC)
Bike lockers & Bike Rentals
Car Share Rental

TC + CC + Shopping

With one trip by transit, a working mom can accomplish three tasks :

Mom can get to her home cell by express bus
Cross street to shopping center and get groceries
Walk half a block to the Community Center to pickup kid from day care.
Then board a Circulator Van to ride back to Apartments

Putting child care next to transit hubs is already being done :

In California, there are already a dozen TODs with child care

Across the nation, in both urban and rural areas, near rail stations and bus hubs, at - capacity child

care centers are proving to be an important community component, along with housing and retail.
