The Organs/Arms of Government
Structurally, and for effective performance of its functions, government divided into three main organs. These organs are the legislature, the executive and the judiciary. The legislature is given the major duty of law making, the executive enforces and implements the laws made by the legislature while the judiciary interprets the laws and settles disputes among the people of the state or between the government and its citizens.
GOVERNMENT AS A PROCESS OR ART OF GOVERNING:
This second definition of government sees government as the sum of all the processes involved in governing a state. These include all the processes by which governmental rules and policies are formulated, implemented, enforced and interpreted. Essentially, the task of law making is the exclusive duty of the legislature; the executive formulates and implements or executes those laws made by the legislature while the judiciary interprets the laws made and punishes law breakers.
