  • The School’s After School Care Service was inspected by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales in December 2011. It received an excellent Report with no areas for improvement.




28. AWARDS:




  • Quality Mark : The next re-assessment is scheduled for Summer 2012.

  • Customer Service Excellence: The School was re-assessed in June 2012.

  • Investors in People: The nature of this Award has now been changed. Establishments may apply for the basic Investors Award or may choose to apply for the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. Our School opted to apply for the Gold Award. The re-assessment took place in February 2012 and the School was Awarded the SILVER AWARD. The Standards Officers and all staff are to be complimented on this outstanding result.

  • During the Autumn Term 2012 the School was assessed by ECO Schools Wales and awarded the coveted ECO Green Flag.

32. SCHOOL UNIFORM:




  • The School aims to introduce a standard black skirt for the girls and a blazer for Junior pupils for the 2013 – 2014 Academic Year.



33. SCHOOL PROSPECTUS, WEBSITE and APP:




  • The School Prospectus was updated in November 2012.

  • The School Website was updated in Autumn 2012 and Spring 2013.

  • The Website is currently being translated into Welsh and will be active from the beginning of the Spring Term 2014.

  • In October 2012 the School became the first School in Wales to introduce a School App. Parents have accepted this new innovation enthusiastically. It will be used to give updated information to parents and for promotional purposes.




34. BUILDINGS and SCHOOL SITE:




  • The School’s Sports Pavilion was renovated during the Summer Vacation 2012.

  • General Maintenance work was carried out on the Main Building and Years 4 and 5 Unit in the Summer Term 2012.

  • A new Boiler was installed in the Years 2 and 3 Unit. The Welsh Assembly Government met this expenditure.

  • A new ventilation system was installed in the Kitchen in November 2012 and consequently conforms to all ventilation regulations. Cost:4k

  • School Lights: Owen and Palmer hold The School’s Electrical Contract. This Company has carried a survey of the School for the purpose of introducing new eco friendly/ LED lights to replace all current units used at the School.

  • All wooden fencing and gates: In the Summer 2012/ Autumn 2012 wooden gates in the Nursery Unit were replaced and all fencing given a coat of wood preservative.

  • A new Learning Area was completed in Summer 2012.

  • Plants and Shrubs were planted in and around this Playing Area.

  • A new ECO Shed was erected in Spring 2012.



35. SCHOOL SECURITY – CCTV:




  • Plans are in place for upgrading the School’s CCTV System.

  • Quotes for an upgraded Security Light System are currently being considered.



36. HEALTH AND SAFETY:




  • The School’s Health and Safety Procedures have been analysed for effectiveness and updated accordingly (May 2012)

  • PAT Testing – carried out in October 2012.

  • Fire Fighting Equipment will be tested in March 2013.

  • All Risk Assessment Procedures are currently being reviewed.

  • Legionnaires Disease Survey and Risk Assessment: A Survey of the appropriate buildings was carried out in Summer 2012 and the necessary work carried out. A new Risk Assessment was carried out in Summer 2012 with a Review Date of August 2014.

  • A new ventilation system was installed in the kitchen which regulates air quality and reduces Co2 levels.

  • New Rugby/Football Posts were erected in May 2012. These conform to the new H and S Regulations.

  • A second Pedestrian Gate was erected in March 2013.


37. THE SCHOOL’S INTERNAL TELEVISION CHANNEL

The School has acquired its own television channel. This interactive channel is designed to work for the School in providing an efficient tool to communicate with our pupils and provide them with useful information on health, the community and issues they may face in everyday life.

This network is a valuable resource in helping to improve the health and wellbeing of our pupils and has a vast library of prepared films readily available online for download and scheduling.

Similarly, the School’s network will help with parent and school visitor communications, highlighting our pupils’ achievements academically and within the community whilst providing visual assurance to parents that their children are kept informed of societal issues and concerns such as crime, health issues and road safety.

This internal television network will also be used to develop all aspects of primary curriculum and in particular work appertaining to numeracy and literacy. It will also be used for enriching extra-curricular activities e.g. film club, adventurers and explorers club etc.

It will also be an important addition to the School’s ICT and media studies curriculum, for example developing skills related to: filming; video editing; video journalism; school news station; school weather station; storyboard; video streaming etc.

This network consists of TV screens in the main hall, in the administration area and an outdoor screen. Please note that television programmes will not be transmitted. During playtimes it will transmit health promoting/games footage etc.

The Welsh Language in the School:



INTRODUCTION:

The majority of pupils come from homes where the predominant language is English.


7% of the pupils speak Welsh fluently.

7.3% speak Welsh but not fluently.
The Use of Welsh in the School:



  • Welsh is taught mainly as a Second Language.

  • The Welsh Language is also used as a conversational day to day language.

  • The School has a pupil Welsh Committee/Club.

  • The pupils are encouraged to participate in the activities arranged by the Welsh League of Youth.

  • The Welsh Language appears equally alongside the English Language in all displays of work etc.

  • The Welsh Language is used alongside the English Language in the morning Service.

  • The School’s Welsh Unit teaches both Welsh as a First and Second Language.

  • The Welsh Unit also introduces pupils to cross-curricular studies through the medium of Welsh.


Results and Targets for the Welsh Language:
The Results for Foundation Phase 2013:
OUTCOME 5+
88% of pupils achieved Outcome 5+ in Welsh Second Language

This is an increase of 21% compared to 2012


OUTCOME 6+
25% of pupils achieved Outcome 6 was 25%

This was an increase of 4+ compared to 2012


The Target for 2013 was 86%. Thus the Target was met by +2%
The Target for 2014 is 92%

KEY STAGE 2:
Results for 2013:


  • 40% of pupils achieved Level 3

  • This was an increase of 14% since 2012

  • The Target was 40%


The Target for 2014 is 50%


38. THE WELSH LEAGUE OF YOUTH:

This Academic Year the School has resumed its association with the Welsh League of Youth and has participated in numerous activities arranged for primary aged pupils.


Details are as follows:
1. THE GLANLLYN OUTDOOR CENTRE :
During the Autumn Term, 40 Pupils from the School stayed at this Centre and enjoyed participating in a range of exciting outdoor activities.
2. EISTEDDFOD COMPETITIONS:
Pupils from the School participated in Art, Craft and Stage Competitions.
