| 2007 was a special year for Coach McKnight. Winning the AMCC Championship, playing in the NCAA regionals and coaching his daughter, Nicolette at the White House South Lawn softball game with President Bush.
Chris McKnight completed his 8th and final season at Frostburg State University in 2007, capturing the Allegeny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship and guiding the Bobcats to the NCAA regionals for a record setting second appearance. The Bobcats finished the season with a 31-15 record, led the AMCC again in many offensive categories including hitting, homeruns, slugging percentage, fielding and runs scored. The Bobcats were 4th in the nation in homeruns with 45 and 4th in the country in fielding percentage (.967). The Bobcats were ranked 5th in the Mid Atlantic region by the NCAA. McKnight credits the outstanding offensive and defensive numbers to his vision training program and dedicated work ethic of his players and coaches. In his 8 years at the helm of FSU, he compiled an impressive .641 winning percentage (206-115) and a 98-28 AMCC conference record. In 2006, McKnight led the Bobcats to new heights; including the first ever win for FSU in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regionals. McKnight became the fastest coach to win 100 games at FSU and led the Bobcats to eight AMCC tournament appearances and championships in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Bobcats finished the season ranked sixth in the American Baseball Coaches Association Mid Atlantic region poll. He also guided FSU to a 29-13 overall record and a 14-4 conference slate. The 2005 season, FSU began with a 7-8 record, but rebounded with a 10 game winning streak to open up the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. The Bobcats finished the AMCC play with a 17-1 record, capturing the regular season championship while finishing the season with a 29-13 overall mark. In 2004, the Bobcats won the AMCC tournament for the first time under McKnight and finished with 26 wins. Frostburg State also finished the season ranked no. 7 in the Mid Atlantic Region voted on by the American Baseball Coaches Association. In 2003, McKnight led the Bobcats to a 31-12-1 overall record, a 13 game winning streak and a berth in the AMCC Tournament for the fourth straight year. The Bobcats finished the year among national leaders in batting average, ERA, stolen bases and winning percentage. The 31 wins ties for the third highest single season total in the programs 60 year history. FSU was ranked as high as 29th in the nation during the year. Eight Bobcats were named to the –All AMCC team. Prior to coming to FSU, McKnight was the Associate Director of Athletics and Head Baseball Coach at NCAA Division II Dowling College. He began his career at Dowling as the Asst Director of Athletics and Hitting Coach. During his tenure as hitting coach, the Golden Lions were ranked in the top 20 in batting average and home runs per game. McKnight then became Dowling’s Head Coach in 1995 and in just three short years due to his outstanding recruiting and dedicated work ethic in turned the Golden Lions into one of the top programs in the Northeast. In 1998, McKnight led the Golden Lions to a 26-11 record-second best in school history, an ECAC Championship and an appearance in the NYCAC championship game. McKnight is a sought after clinician, speaking on hitting and vision training. His Baseball Vision Training program is used at the TPX Top 96 College Coaches Clinics across the nation. He just completed Part One and Part Two of his Vision Training DVD “You Gotta see it to hit it”. McKnight has also authored numerous articles that have appeared in “Scholastic Coach” “Coach and Athletic Director” and the American Baseball Coaches Association “Coaching Digest”. McKnight recently served a 4 year term from 2001-2005, including chairman in 04-05 on the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee and was one of the eight voting members charged with reviewing and implementing rules for the nation’s baseball programs in Division I, II, and III. McKnight has operated his own camp-Grand Slam Baseball for the past 15 years. He also serves on the advisory staff to Worldwide Baseball Prospects. Currently, he serves on the ABCA Research and College Playing Rules Committees and is a member of the Maryland State Baseball Coaches Association. An active member in the community, McKnight volunteers with the Clarysville Fire department Search and Rescue Unit with his dogs, Nitro and Raven.
