6. Why should we consider you for the role? Please review the job description, match it against your profile, and provide us a brief summary of your qualifications (maximum of 3000 characters)
Over my professional career, I have worked in a number of ADB funded projects (from project preparation, design and implementation stages) and has utilized SPS 2009 in drafting EIA/IEE’s-EMPs. As Environmental Safeguard Specialists in a number of DMC’s ADB funded projects, I gained Strategic/ Planning perspectives and insights through my actual field experiences and in dealing with EA’s PIUs. In parallel, working in other MDB’s provided me good insights on other funder’s Safeguards Frameworks that can be compared with ADB’s SPS 2009 for future enhancements, since all of them share common objectives of Sustainable Development and Protection of the Environment. I also gained knowledge of individual country’s requirements and through in-depth study and application of their frameworks, I got good understanding on how to mainstream them with ADB’s or other MDB’s safeguards guidelines. My involvement in design and construction supervision enabled me to encounter actual issues (some of them somehow unique) and to devise ways with stakeholders on how to resolve them within the requirements of the project. Over the years, my familiarity with Environmental Safeguards issues and resolutions in a number of projects provided me sound perspective in mainstreaming them to project implementation, operations and funding.
Since I’ve been a field implementation expert on the Consultant’s side, participating in project teams or missions will be an easy transition, including fulfilling all the needed requirements. In addition, I’ve conducted trainings of EA/ PIU personnel, Consultant’s personnel and Contractor’s staff on Environmental Safeguards. I’ve also been contracted to specifically conduct Capacity Building for some local agencies in DMCs and have provided seminars and workshops as part of my consultancy tasks.
As part of the knowledge sharing, I’ve co-authored a book entitled “Citizen’s Guide to Environmental Protection” and have written papers which I had presented Technical Conferences on topics like Environmental Management, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management. In a number of times, I’ve been involved intermittently in several projects which are connected to a regional framework like the CAREC and the GMS. Both of these Regional Cooperation Projects entailed capacity building and delivery of public goods.
