(L) (Hook) Did you know that digital storytelling is being recognized as an effective way to deliver a message and also when trying to teach something?

(L) Research shows that if the content is presented in a story format the information people tend to remember the information better. Example: Derek Jeter commercial. (10 minutes)

(L) Give an overview of the period (instruction first followed by work time, regroup for more instruction, then work time, and return ipads last 10 minutes of class, announcements and exit pass)

Launch the Adobe Voice app

Model how to start a new project, insert an icon, photo, text, voice, how to add a new slide, how to re-record, how to preview
Guided Practice (20 min)

(T & L) Circulate to ensure students are making progress inserting an icon, photo, text and voice and to answer student questions, if any.

Regroup class for next set of instructions.
Instruction-part 2 (15 min)

(L) Model how to shuffle slides, delete slides, edit credits, make private (for safety reasons), upload, email, and logout of Gmail, Drive and Adobe Voice.
Guided Practice (15 min)

(T/L) Circulate to ensure students are finalizing their video and uploading, emailing and logging out of apps used.

Regroup class for closing.
Closure (Closing activity before dismissal from class) (10 min)

(T) Plugs in iPads for recharging. (I recommend that teacher and not the students do this part).

(L) Announcement: iPads will be available during the next 2 Study Hall periods so sign up for a pass if interested to complete your project.

Ipads with Adobe Voice app, internet connection, storyboard handout (librarian will create a storyboard for your project, if interested), Adobe Voice instruction sheet, Adobe Voice video sample (see librarian for help making one for your project), project rubric, speakers, projector, clicker, Exit P ass.

Handout: Instructions to Use Adobe Voice
Creating your video
-
Open the Voice app
-
Tap + Create New Story
-
Sign Up with Adobe ID (use your school gmail account).
-
Tap in the text box and enter your title or idea, press next
-
Tap on the + sign to add either an icon, photo or text.
-
To add a photo, tap the photo option, tap On My iPad, select your photo.
-
Press and hold the Hold to Record button and read your script for that photo.
-
Tap the Play arrow to hear your recording. To re-record, press and hold the Hold to Record and read your script again until you are satisfied with the clip.
-
Add a new slide by tapping the + sign in the lower right corner, tap the icon option to search for a clip art or tap the text button to add text and repeat steps 7-9 until you’re done with your video.
To move a slide, press and hold and drag the slide to its new location.
To delete a slide tap on a slide and select Delete Page, click on the red X that appears.
To listen to your entire video, tap the Play icon (lower left corner).
To upload your video, tap the upload icon (rectangle with up arrow) located in upper right corner.
Make your video private, select the Copy Link option, Edit Credits and add your name (optional), tap Upload.
To email your video, press the Home button on your iPad, open the Gmail app, sign in with your school gmail account, then Go to inbox.

Tap the red Edit button (box with pencil), in the To: box type [insert an email address]

Tap the Cc/Bcc icon and type your email address in the Cc: box

Tap the Subject box and type your period, Video and Your last name (ex. Pd 1 Video Hewett), tap return

To paste the link to your video, press and hold the space below the Subject box until a circle appears then let go and tap Paste (an adobevoice URL should appear).

To send your message tap the blue arrow (upper right corner).

To log out, tap the icon with 3 horizontal lines (upper left corner), press the Manage accounts button (lower left corner), turn your account Off, tap the Manage (upper right) button, then tap Remove.
To Sign Out of Adobe Voice, tap the Home icon (upper left corner), tap the gear icon (upper left corner), tap Account (your account), then tap Sign out.
Getting photos from Google Drive that were emailed to your account

Open the Drive app and log in

Open a photo you uploaded from your phone

Press and hold the image until a Save Image box appears, click Save Image
-
Repeat for your other photos
-
To log off, tap the icon with 3 horizontal lines (upper left corner), tap your email address (upper left), tap Manage (upper right), tap the Remove button, tap the Remove button again.
