I. TEACHING
Fall '01 courses:

CMPSC 202 – Principles of Programming I - Enrollment: approx. 25
This is the first time I have taught this course using the C++ programming language. Teaching introductory programming courses requires constant attention – I created and administered weekly quizzes, homework assignments, and in-class labs.

CMPSC 111 – Introduction to Computer Science – Enrollment: approx. 20
I hadn’t taught this course in a while; introduced html as the language for web page development.

Honors 252 – Computer Science/Technology Seminar – Enrollment: 25
Second time around for this Honors Program course. I changed the textbook and revised several of the course components, including a shoring up of the computer ethics material. The major project for the semester was the student-designed Honors Class web site.
Spring '02 courses:

CMPSC 251 – Computer Networks – Enrollment: approx. 25
Taught for the first time in four years; new edition of textbook.

ACSG 550 – Client Server Systems – Enrollment: 12
I developed and taught this course the first time it was offered to in our graduate program. We partitioned the hard drives in S104 to allow for the introduction of Linux into the course. Programmed TCP/IP applications.
Advising work:

I served as academic advisor for approximately 40 Computer Science majors.

In my role as Chair of Computer Science, I have advised numerous students, prospective students and prospective majors and minors; also prospective graduate students.

In my role as Program Director of the Masters in Computer Science – Internet Information Systems Program, I fielded many email and telephone inquiries, recruited and advised all new students.
Teaching innovations:

I used freeware html editing software for CMPSC 111.
-
I used a variety of web-based visualizations programs for CMPSC 251.
-
I continue to use various forms of technology (eg, Internet, electronic lecture media, email) in all of my classes; web-based instruction to enhance courses.
-
I also continue to work with active and collaborative learning strategies.
II. SCHOLARLY/CREATIVE ACTIVITY
Presentations:

Teaching Computer Ethics, a tutorial at the Eighth Annual Midwest Regional Conference of the Consortium for Computing in Small Colleges, Olivet-Nazarene University, Kankakee, IL September 2001. Collaboration with Keith Miller, University of Illinois at Springfield, as part of our implementation of our IBHE HECA grant entitled Encouraging Responsible Computer Usage in Illinois.

Writing Computer Ethics Scenarios, a workshop presented with Frances Grodzinsky, Sacred Heart University, and Gloria Childress Townsend, DePauw University, at the 33rd Annual SIGCSE Meeting (Special Interest Group – Computer Science Education), Covington, KY, February 2002.
