Invitation to and Guidelines for

Are you smarter than a 5th grader?”

President’s Day Event---Feb. 21, 2011 1:00-3:00

At the new Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic

For the Liberty School Move & Restoration Project to the Gray/Campbell Farmstead at Nathanael Greene Park
*************************************************************
All fifth grade classes are invited to participate in a challenge about U S Presidents against VIP’s on President’s Day while enjoying a day out of school. Five 5th graders will represent all 5th graders and will receive recognition. The outstanding 5th grader, determined by the most correct answers, will win $100.00 for their class to purchase something the class will decide on with direction from the teacher. Many of the classes have made field trips to the Farmstead and learned how their ancestors lived and worked. We are working to move a one-room school, Liberty, from north of Springfield to the farmstead. Sponsors will provide prize money for the VIP’s to earn for the project while attempting to answer questions about our U. S. Presidents.

Guidelines for participation are as follows:

1. Hold competition in class--similar to a Spelling Bee--but use questions pertaining to

U.S. Presidents. If a run off is needed within the school due to more than one fifth grade class, have that competition or decision among the classes.

2. Send name of school, teacher with contact phone number and fifth grader’s name to Norma Tolbert, 7023 N. Farm Road 203, Strafford, MO 65757--phone 833-2352--by February 15. The first 5 fifth graders registrations received will be our participants. All other students and school classes will be wonderful supporters which will cheer them on.
3. Be at the Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic, Spfd., on Feb. 21st by 12:30 pm to sign in.
The game will follow a similar format to the TV game show “Are you smarter than a 5th grader?” The VIP’s will choose a student to assist them and they will be able to COPY from the student or CHEAT by looking at the student’s answer and decide if they want to go with that answer or decide for themselves. But different than the TV show, all students will have a board to answer each question. After the VIP answers the question, all students will show their answer. A tally will be kept to determine who has the most correct answers. Of course, we will introduce the child and the school and hope to have a crowd of support for them. Three to five VIP’s will be participating and we plan to use all five students in the COPY and CHEAT chair to help out the VIP‘s.
It will be FUN and all of us should learn more about our U S Presidents. We hope to raise some money to help move the school soon so future generations will not forget the lessons from the past. COME WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!
