Web Master – Brian Edholm/ David Landry:

  1. Website was down for a period of time last week; our hosting company dropped the ball and it went down but it is back up and fully operational.

5. OLD Business:

None

6. NEW Business:

  1. Briefing from AFCEA East Conference in June; Dave, Kathy and Johnnie attended. (Please see separate attachment for further details) Some of the highlights included:

    1. Attendance was down quite a bit from previous year

    2. Town Hall – pushed utilizing AFCEA webhosting as well as other AFCEA services

    3. Major topic was financial problems of Education Fund; they are in a $750,000 deficit. The PDC courses used to fund and these have now dried up and they have lost the principle source of revenue.

    4. Education Fund has 5 people on salary – budget is $450K per year; administer about $950,000 of scholarships – massive overhead

    5. Asked for recommendations but really focused on getting out of debt rather than dealing with the problem. The Advisory Committee met and they went forward with recommendations without BoD approval. The Panel’s recommendation was that AFCEA BoD members contribute personal funds to the “leadership level” of $1000/yr - $5000/yr; Also asking to tax 15% on fundraising for Education Funds of all chapters; If they institute both, then could possibly retire the debt in 1-3 years

    6. Very vocal resistance and no clear path to recovery from the Ed Foundation perspective

    7. What does this mean to the AFCEA Atlanta Chapter? We will be assessed a permanent 15% tax on any future funds raised to support our chapters’ Education Foundation Fund tracked through annual filing with IRS; The AFCEA International BOD members will be urged to pay $1000 - $5000 annually of personal funds.

    8. We will need to flow our comments through our RVP in order to roll up to International.

(Full discussion of AFCEA East is in separate attached document)

  1. Vote was approved to budget $100 to send to Buzz Powell’s family after the passing of his father

Meeting adjourned: Dave Landry @ 1:00pm
