Students learn to repair, mask, and refinish vehicles or body components. In addition, they learn the application of primers, sealers, and other prep coats and to practice maintenance and safety procedures.

Collision Repair and Refinishing Technician (ASE)
Certification of skill in automobile repair and refinishing. Examinations are considered “pathway” examinations to full ASE certification in a specialty area upon completion of required work experience.
National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF)

Pass any one of four tests covering the following specialty areas in the ASE Collision Repair and Refinish Test Series:
Painting and Refinishing exam
Nonstructural Analysis and Damage Repair exam
Structural Analysis and Damage Repair exam
Electrical/Mechanical Components exam

Nine students were reported as having passed one of the ASE exams in the Repair and Refinishing Technician series.

National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI)

Pass the NOCTI knowledge-based exam, Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology (1083), which includes 198 test items. Test includes welding, sheet metal repair/panel alignment, plastic repairs, structural, glass, trim and hardware, and detailing, estimating, electronic, safety/environmental, air conditioning, corrosion and corrosion protection, and refinishing.

During 2004 through 2006, 35 Virginia students have taken this assessment with 18 scoring at or above the national norm.
2006: 24 Virginia students took the assessment with 14 scoring at or above the national norm.
