Breakfast Expansion Ambassador – Northeast, CO (Part-time Contract Position)

Hunger Free Colorado works to provide systems change from the federal to the local level by using the tools of policy, coalition building, collaborative programming, targeted awareness and process measurements to create innovative solutions to Colorado’s hunger challenges.
Job Summary
The primary goal of the Breakfast Expansion Ambassador is to expand access for students to the School Breakfast Program by encouraging schools and districts to adopt an expanded breakfast service model such as Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC), Grab and Go, or Breakfast After First Period. The Ambassador will conduct outreach to target schools within specified school districts and to families to inform them of the availability of these programs. The Ambassador will work with a number of stakeholders—primarily principals, school faculty and staff, and parents—as well as district personnel, when appropriate. By working in counties with which the Ambassador is familiar, the Ambassador will build on existing relationships, along with developing new ones.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Specifically, the Breakfast Expansion Ambassador is responsible for expanding school breakfast programs and increasing breakfast participation in a targeted geographic area through the following activities:

Connect with target schools

Raise awareness of expanded breakfast programs; present at local meetings

Provide tools and information to schools (one-pagers, data, program logistics checklists, etc.)

Present school administrators with breakfast expansion options, logistics options, and solutions to existing or perceived barriers

Facilitate stakeholder team meetings

Innovate strategies to build support for breakfast expansion

Maintain expertise on breakfast program rules and regulations

Maintain knowledge of breakfast expansion best practices

Provide ongoing support to schools, districts, and communities during their expansion transition
Training and Support
Hunger Free Colorado will provide initial and ongoing training and technical assistance to the Breakfast Expansion Ambassador. The Breakfast Ambassador will offer coaching and herald the benefits of the School Breakfast Program based on the latest science, but will be able to defer technical and policy-related questions to Hunger Free Colorado or the Colorado Department of Education.
Required Qualifications

Contractor must currently reside in one of the following Colorado counties: Logan, Morgan, Weld

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university

Experience as a school or district level administrator, faculty or staff member

Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to apply innovative communication strategies

Ability to work independently as a self-starter on clearly defined goals and tactics

Daily computer and phone access for required communication

Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle with current automobile registration and insurance
Compensation
The Breakfast Expansion Ambassador will be offered a contract for the 2013-2014 school year, with potential to renew for subsequent school years. The Ambassador compensation rate is $25/hour for up to 20 hours/week, August - June. Mileage will be reimbursed at $0.30/mile.
