CARRIAGEWAY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR BUS STOPS
8.23 The minimum permitted length of a bus bay should be 19m (see
Diagram 8m). However, this should only be used
• Where no parking is allowed on either side of the road
• On an all day bus lane
• On local distributor roads in new developments where parking is unlikely or,
• Where the stop is deemed to be low-usage.

8.24 Ina mid-block situation, that is away from junctions and traffic signals, and where parking is permitted, the minimum requirement for the length of a bus bay is 37m which comprises of 13m clearance for entry, m for stopping and 9m for exit see Diagram 8n).
