Computer Game Club

2014-15
omputer Game Club
v11-6-14

  1. Schedule, how often.

  2. Games, where and what.

  3. Attitude, good for you to practice.

  4. 6 Rules, so we can all enjoy this.

  5. Sign it, and know what you sign.

  6. Other questions.

  1. Schedule. How often is Game Club?

    1. Every Thursday from now until Christmas.

    2. After January I might revise the schedule.

    3. That is a guaranteed 6 times for game club. (No game club on Thanksgiving day.)

    4. You don’t have to come to the “club” every day. Come whenever you can make it.

  2. Games.

    1. Where are the games at? You should be logged in as “student” then look on the “desktop” for the folder called “Computer games 2014-15.”

    2. If you can’t find games ask a student or Mr. Seeley, they can get deleted.

    3. What game should you start with? Later Mr. Seeley will talk about his philosophy about trying different styles of games. For now, try for a game that is easy to find and easy to learn / play. Cool math games or Google unblocked games. Bloons tower defense is a classic. In the folder you can start with Cake, Peggle, Marble or Mario.

    4. Later, more in-depth games that are good to try are: Age of Empires (AOE 3), Age of Mythology and Torchlight. Minecraft seems to be popular right now, you do need buy an account through them first.

  3. Attitude.

    1. Lets try to have the same positive attitude whether we are winning or losing. No bad language, spoken or typed. Be socially acceptable. What does that mean? Mr. Seeley has a long 6 period day, don’t make this a tiring extra period I have to manage students. I want to have is a positive, safe and fun experience for everyone. Help me do that by having a good attitude with me and other students.

    2. Not a rule but a philosophy… Don’t just try the same game over and over again. Branch out, live a little, grow and become a more interesting you. You never know when you will discover your next favorite game.

  4. Rules.

1. Be appropriate with what we say and write.

2. Be quiet, don’t yell or have your computer loud. Have your sound off or wear a headset.

3. Don’t contact or IM with anyone outside of our room. Most of this is blocked by the district but avoid it if it happens.

4. Don’t play inappropriate games or watch inappropriate videos / images. Most is blocked by the district. But avoid realistic violence and inappropriate material.

5. Please follow the “after school” rules about snacks and drinks. Snacks and drinks should be eaten and stored by the sink or outside.

6. Remember to quit and clean up on time put your CD’s back. There is a new policy this year. We need to have students out the door at 4:15. Especially if you ride the bus. If you ride the bus, you need a bus pass with your bus number on it.

If playing a multiplayer game watch the clock and start “Armageddon” so you can leave at 4:15.

  1. Sign this and know what you are signing.

    1. If you plan on coming back to CGC please bring a signed parent permission slip.

    2. You will also need to purchase an ASB card from the office and show it to me once.

      1. If this is a hardship for your family contact the counseling office, or me.

    3. By signing this I promise do my best to follow the rules and have a good attitude.

    4. My parents understand that I am playing computer games after school. Each family has their own rules of what is appropriate. Here a SJH we will try to be “middle of the road” in the games we play. All of my supplied games AVOID realistic violence like crosshair shooter games and realistic blood… but some online games that students choose to play can lean this way. As a club, we will discuss this and try to keep it a positive experience for all.

_______________________________________ Parents, make a special note if you would like to allow your child to play “online computer games.”

These would be like “Bloons Tower Defense 4” (which has advisements next to it) or minecraft. I will try to have them avoid chatting with anyone outside of school. Call or email me with questions about this.

Thank you for making CGC an enjoyable experience for everyone.

  1. Other questions?

  • Can I download these games on a flash drive?

    • Ask me first, some games are demos and might work but only if you have a Mac at home.

    • Other games are full versions and even if you have a Mac at home, would be wrong for you to copy because of the copyright law.

  • Where can I get these games?

    • Some are a free downloads. Try “download.com.”

    • Some you have to buy online, amazon is good for this. If you have a Windows computer, games are usually less expensive. Ask me for help.

  • How do you use a “two button” mouse on a Mac?

    • They all are two button mice… you just have to “configure” it under system preferences or just use the “apple” key.

    • Option left click = a right click.
