INFORMATION

The Consulate General of France in the Atlantic Provinces, the Atlantic Film Festival Association and the Alliance Française of Halifax are pleased to launch the second edition of this exciting competition to invite a young Canadian film director to be immersed in French culture and to take part in the world’s most prestigious film event, the 63rd Cannes International Film Festival.



ELIGIBILITY:

        • Must be between 18 and 30 years of age before Saturday May 30th, 2010

        • Be currently registered in or a graduate of an official film school or film program in Nova Scotia

        • Must be in possession of a valid passport until the end of May 2010

        • Must possess a working knowledge of French (B1 level – intermediate)

        • Have a two-minute clip reel of previous works on DVD or VHS (Submissions may contain any genre and style – animation, documentary or fiction.)

        • Must be available from May 12th-22nd, 2010 and September 16th-25th, 2010 for specific event participation

        • Not open to those of French citizenship



PRIZE:

        • Intensive French classes at the Alliance Française of Halifax before your departure for Cannes (10 hours total).

        • Cost of travel, accommodation, travel insurance, festival registration and assistance for a one-week stay, from May 12th to 22nd, 2010 at the Cannes International Film Festival in the company of twenty other international winners selected by French Embassies. There, you will have access to screenings, festival industry sessions, opportunity to meet with the cinematographic world (directors, technicians, actors, producers, critics, and cinephiles), and participation in workshops to stimulate exchanges and reflection and the possibility to create a documentary of the whole adventure.

        • Presentation of your filmed diary at the French Gala evening of the Atlantic Film Festival 2010.

        • A full industry professional pass to attend all screenings, industry sessions and special events of the Atlantic Film Festival 2010.

 


TIMELINE:


        • Launch date for submitting applications: January 28th, 2010

        • End date for submitting applications: Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

        • Notification sent out to candidates: Early March 2010

        • 10 hours of French Classes: Mid-March- Beginning of May 2010

        • Attendance at the Cannes International Film Festival: May 13th-22nd, 2010

        • Attendance at the 30th Atlantic Film Festival: September 16th-25th, 2010



SUBMISSION PROCESS:
All submissions are viewed by a jury made up of program sponsors. The final candidate is selected by the Consulate general of France.
Applications and all related materials must be sent before Tuesday, February 16th, 2010:

- and by regular mail, accompanying 2 copies of your clip reel, that will not exceed 2 minutes in length, on DVD, to the following address :

NOTE: Any incomplete submissions, or that do not meet requirements, or that are sent after February 16th 2010 will not be considered for this competition.
