Michael N. Bohan, MD
Dr. Michael N. Bohan, board-certified, is founding partner of Carolina Orthopaedics. His specialties include primary and complex revision joint replacement surgery of the knee and hip. His expertise also includes new non-surgical management techniques, such as utilizing Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections to stimulate and optimize a patient’s own ability to heal certain chronic conditions.
Dr. Bohan holds a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine from Davidson College in North Carolina and a medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Salem, N.C. In addition to being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Dr. Bohan received advanced training from the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and then completed a fellowship at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Dr. Bohan has been practicing orthopaedics in the Myrtle Beach area since 2000. He is board certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and currently serves as director of the Total Joint Replacement Program at Waccamaw Community Hospital. Dr. Bohan was voted “Best Orthopaedic Surgeon” for 2015 and 2016 by the Myrtle Beach Herald Readers’ Choice Awards.
Edward J. Mikol, MD
Dr. Edward J. Mikol, a founding partner of Carolina Orthopaedics, is a board certified physician who focuses his practice on sports injuries and disorders of the shoulder, knee, and hip, including arthroscopic procedures, tendon repairs, and joint replacements. He also specializes in fractures and dislocations, and new non-surgical management techniques, such as utilizing Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections to stimulate and optimize a patient’s own ability to heal certain chronic conditions
Dr. Mikol holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science statistics and a medical degree from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. Upon graduating, he completed a surgical internship and orthopaedic surgery residency there. He then completed a medical fellowship at the Southern Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Nashville, Tenn.
Notably, Dr. Mikol has been awarded a coveted U.S. patent for a method to repair proximal humeral fractures. A European version was awarded in 2007. This invention provides an option for the treatment of fractures of the shoulder and humerus, but can be applied to certain other bones as well.
Christopher T. Crosby, DPM
Dr. Christopher T. Crosby is a board certified orthopaedic podiatrist who specializes in foot and ankle injuries and disorders, such as joint replacement, arthroscopic procedures, and complex fractures. His areas of expertise also include dislocations of the midfoot and hindfoot, bunions, hammertoes, orthotics, and bracing. Additionally, he specializes in the non-surgical management of chronic tendonitis, arthritis, and fasciitis, utilizing Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections.
Dr. Crosby graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and then continued there to earn his medical degree. He completed his residency at Plantation General Hospital in Florida, while gaining additional training in wound care and foot and ankle surgery. Upon graduating and completing his residency, he returned to South Carolina in 2004 to establish his own practice.
Stephen Q. Parker, MD
Dr. Stephen Q. Parker is a board certified interventional pain management physician who specializes in neck and back pain, worker injuries, and general muscular skeletal medicine. He also focuses on conducting studies on nerves, epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulator trials, kyphoplasty, and facet blocks, as well as joint and hip injections under fluoroscopy.
Dr. Parker is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C.,where he earned a bachelor’s degree in molecular physiology, and the Medical University of South Carolina, where he earned his medical degree. He then completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation from The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Parker has been a member of Carolina Orthopaedics since 2011. He has experience in both inpatient and outpatient rehab, having served as a medical director for the past 14 years. Dr. Parker has also been involved in the development of telemedicine technology and is co-founder of MDLive, which is based in South Florida. He is a diplomat of the Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehab and a member of the International Pain Society, the South Carolina Spine Association, the American Telemedicine Association, and the South Carolina Medical Association.
Brian K. Blair, MD
Dr. Brian K. Blair is an orthopaedic sports medicine specialist with a focus on arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. His areas of expertise include complex shoulder and knee injuries and replacement, and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy for the treatment of chronic tendinopathies and arthritis, having performed several hundred PRP injections. He is certified in IMPACT concussion management and experienced in Sportmetrics ACL injury prevention.
Dr. Blair graduated from Furman University, Greenville, S.C., with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and from the Medical University of South Carolina with a medical degree. While attending medical school, Dr. Blair was inducted into the National Medical Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Fort Worth Affiliated Hospital System in Dallas, TX, and was awarded a one year accredited fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas in orthopaedic sports medicine, working with the world renowned shoulder and sports medicine expert, Dr. Richard Hawkins.
Dr. Blair is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also has the distinction of holding a Certificate of Additional Qualification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is the only orthopaedic surgeon in Myrtle Beach to hold such an honor. As an undergraduate, Dr. Blair was an All-Conference soccer player and student athlete. Prior to starting medical school, he played professional soccer for the Charleston Battery, winning a national championship in 1996. Over the years, Dr. Blair has been involved in the care of recreational, college, and professional athletes, including the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball. His experiences as a former and current athlete give him a valuable perspective in treating his patients.
Andrew Putman, MD
Dr. Andrew Putman is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hand and upper extremity conditions, including arthritis in the upper extremity and tendon disorders in the hand and wrist. He also treats carpal tunnel syndrome and fractures of the wrist and elbow, trigger fingers, and tendon ruptures.
Dr. Putman graduated from Auburn University in Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and was named to the National Medical Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha at the Medical College of Georgia’s Atlanta Medical Center. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training from the Atlanta Medical Center in Georgia and his fellowship training in hand surgery and microsurgery from the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center.
Todd D. Cook, MD
Dr. Todd D. Cook is a board certified orthopaedic spine surgeon who specializes in common spine disorders, including disc herniations, neck and back pain, stenosis, sciatica and degenerative disc disease. Dr. Cook’s areas of expertise also include the treatment of scoliosis, spine fractures secondary to osteoporosis, and neck deformity, as well as fusions of the neck, mid-back, and low back, disc arthroplasty, kyphoplasty, and spinal cord stimulators.
Dr. Cook graduated with a bachelor’s degree in pre-medical sciences from the University of Georgia. He also graduated Magna Cum Laude with a D.C. in chiropractic medicine from the Life Chiropractic University in Georgia and Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine from Georgia State University. Dr. Cook earned his medical degree from George Washington University, where he was named a member of the National Medical Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his surgery residency training at the Fort Worth Affiliated Hospital System in Dallas, TX, and his spine surgery fellowship from the University of California at Davis.
Mason H. Hicks, PA-C, MS.PAS
Mason H. Hicks is a physician assistant with Carolina Orthopaedics who specializes in critical care, fracture care, and total joint replacement. His area of focus also includes peri-operative medical management and critical care of orthopaedic patients, adult and pediatric alike. Prior to joining Carolina Orthopaedics, Hicks cared for patients within a large, academic trauma center.
A graduate of the College of Charleston where he majored in pre-physician assistant studies, Hicks went on to earn his Master in Science of Physician Assistant Studies from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his clinical training at the Medical University of South Carolina and took a position as orthopaedic trauma physician assistant with McLeod Regional Trauma Center in Florence, S.C. Hicks was named president of the South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants on July 1, 2016, for a one-year term.
Hicks is NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) board certified and medically licensed to see patients from all medical specialties, but mostly enjoys seeing orthopaedic patients. Hicks prides himself on providing the most up-to-date medical care utilizing the newest techniques. He works closely with all of Carolina Orthopaedics’ physician partners to provide patients with the fastest, safest, and best care possible.
Tim Montague-Smith, PA-C
Tim Montague-Smith, physician assistant (PA-C), focuses on pain management and conditions relating to the spine. A recent graduate, he previously served as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) at the Counseling Center of Florence and as a LPC at Pee Dee Mental Health in Florence, S.C. Montague-Smith earned his Master of Medical Science as a Physician Assistant from Nova Southeastern University in Orlando, Fla. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. Montague-Smith was born in England and lived there until he moved to Bradenton, Fla., at the age of 16 to play tennis at the Nick Bolletterri Tennis Academy.
