CFA® ATLANTIC STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

Annually, the Atlantic Canada CFA Society (ACCFA) receives ten (10) Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) scholarships from the CFA Institute to distribute to nominees. The objectives of the ACCFA for the scholarships are: 1) to introduce outstanding students and graduates to the investment profession, 2) to encourage high CFA pass rates in the Atlantic region and 3) to use all ten (10) scholarships in the Atlantic Canada region.

For undergraduate and graduate student nominees, the ACCFA Board member responsible for University Relations will notify the universities in Atlantic Canada about the ACCFA CFA Scholarship Program. A maximum of one scholarship per University will be awarded by ACCFA in any one calendar year unless all the scholarships available to the ACCFA in that year have not been awarded. For nominees with a university degree, the ACCFA will advertise the scholarships on the ACCFA website. Nominees not sponsored by a University must be sponsored by a CFA member of the ACCFA in good standing. Successful nominees can also apply for a set of study support materials (e.g. Schweser or Stalla) which are available on a first come first serve basis.

In the event of unawarded scholarships, the ACCFA Board will approach the Universities nominating a student for an ACCFA CFA Scholarship to enquire about other nominees and will advertise the scholarships on the ACCFA website. The ACCFA may apply for more scholarships from other societies and multiple scholarships are rotated among the universities and other sponsors to ensure fairness.

Eligibility of Nominees:

The scholarships are only available to new Level I candidates enrolling and registering for the first time. Nominees must be full time undergraduate students in the final year of their academic program, graduate students or university graduates interested in pursuing a CFA designation. Nominees should be enrolled in or a graduate of an Atlantic Canada University. The scholarships are awarded for the June exam in the year the scholarship is awarded. Successful nominees will be required to sign an agreement indicating that if the nominee does not write the CFA Level 1 exam in the year the scholarship was awarded, the nominee will return the scholarship to the ACCFA.

Nominee Selection Process:

Only one nominee for an ACCFA CFA Scholarship from either an Atlantic Canada University or a sponsor is requested. Universities and other sponsors are required to establish their own criteria for sponsoring nominee(s). Suggestions for criteria include financial need, scholastic grades, or essays. Discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, or nationality is prohibited.
