Scholars Program [Deadline: Feb. 17]

The Scholars Program is a distinction awarded to participants who excel in academics, leadership, character development, and chapter and community involvement. The designation of Scholar brings with it eligibility for scholarship opportunities and national events

Eligibility Requirements

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database for a minimum of three years at the time of application deadline

  • Must be registered in the Participant Database as at least Birdie level in the Life Skills Experience as of December 31, 2016

  • Must be registered, active, and current in activities at your chapter

  • Must be a high school senior as of December 31, 2016

  • Active in The First Tee Participant Database upon submittal of application

  • Must have taken the SAT and/or ACT in order to apply, receiving at least a minimum score of 19 on the ACT and a minimum of 500 on both parts of the SAT

  • You must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale

PWC EXECUTIVE BUSINESS FORUM [Deadline: Mar. 10]
Each May, PwC invites alumni of The First Tee to attend their Executive Forum which takes place during THE PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The forum will raise alumni’s awareness of corporate America, learn more about the business of a top accounting firm, and meet client executives who will be in attendance. 

Eligibility Requirements

  • This opportunity is limited to members of The First Tee Alumni Network who are freshmen in college at the time of application deadline

  • In order to apply, alumni must be majoring in one of the following subjects: Accounting, Finance, Business, Marketing or Economics

  • By February 2017, The First Tee Alumni Network will be contacted directly by the home office with details regarding the event and how to apply

  • Alumni that selected by the home office and must be available to travel to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL on May 11th and return on May 14th. The event takes place in conjunction with THE PLAYERS Championship, an official PGA TOUR event.

WELLS FARGO SUCCEEDING TOGETHER [Deadline: Mar. 14]
This year, the Wells Fargo Succeeding Together contest is encouraging teenage participants of The First Tee to showcase the importance of being part of a “Go-To-Team” and working together. Eligible participants of The First Tee can enter through an application and essay process beginning January 17 through March 14, 2017. Our panel of judges will select ten finalists and then ultimately four winners, each of whom will win a trip to the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship with one grand prize winner experiencing the thrill of playing golf with a PGA TOUR pro during the pro-am on Wednesday, May 4, 2017

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants must be in the 13-18 age range

  • Acceptable golf ability – USGA handicap of 18 or better

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database for a minimum of 3 years at the time of application deadline. The Home Office will use the participant’s “created on” date in the database to determine if the participant meets the 3 year requirement

  • Classified as a high school freshman, sophomore, junior or senior as of spring semester 2017

THE FIRST TEE NATIONAL PAR-3 CHAMPIONSHIP [Deadline: Mar. 24]
This event introduces participants to a competitive golf environment by simulating that experience through the stroke play and territory cup events. Participants will develop an understanding of different rules, scenarios and etiquette through instruction lead by a USGA rules official and through implementation during tournament play. Participants will also work on life skill development through dorm living, interaction with participants from around the country and guest speakers. By the end of the week they will have a better understanding of competitive golf rules and regulations and will be ready to act as leaders and role models for other participants at their local chapters.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants must be in the 14-18 age range.

  • Classified as a high school freshman, sophomore, junior or senior as of spring semester 2017

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database at a minimum of Birdie level at the time of application deadline

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database for a minimum of 3 years at the time of application deadline. The Home Office will use the participant’s “created on” date in the database to determine if the participant meets the 3 year requirement

  • Active in The First Tee database upon submittal of application

  • Chapters must have signed their original contract at least 3 years before application deadline in order to submit applicants

John Deere Drive Your Future Academy (Girls Only): [Deadline: Mar. 24]
This all girls event will focus on leadership development, remaining active in the game of golf, learning the value/impact of volunteerism, and recognizing the importance of teamwork.  Applicants will be asked to define the people or circumstances that ‘drive’ them to take on a position of leadership and describe how they plan to apply those principles in their life. In addition, one girl selected for the Academy will be chosen to receive a $5,000 college scholarship plus the opportunity to be a VIP guest and pro-am participant at the John Deere Classic in July 2017.

  • Female participants must be in the 14-18 age range

  • Acceptable golf ability – USGA handicap of 18 or better

Perfect Sense Unified Challenge: [Deadline: Mar. 24] 
The Perfect Sense Unified Challenge will be a President’s Cup team event with golfers from The First Tee paired as teammates with wounded veterans and Special Olympics golfers from around the country. In addition to playing two rounds of golf at some of the top courses in the nation’s capital, golfers will also enjoy a welcome banquet, a career exploration day at Perfect Sense, a tour of DC’s monuments and museums, and a final send off at Top Golf!

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants must be between 14 – 18 years, at time of event. Applicants must reach their 14th birthday on or before the first day of the event and not be a full time college student.

  • Acceptable Golf Ability – USGA handicap of 10 or better for males and 12 or better for females

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database at a minimum of Birdie level at the time of application deadline.

USGA Learning Science Through Golf Academy: [Deadline: Mar. 24
The USGA’s expertise in the areas of research, science and innovation is of growing importance and touches on every aspect of golf, including a greater understanding of the intersection between science and environmental stewardship. Participants will have hands-on access to the USGA Research & Test Center, a facility that supports the research and development of solutions for the betterment of the game, and also includes the USGA’s proprietary golf club and ball testing equipment. Participants will learn from highly educated and skilled USGA engineers and scientists whose work is focused on advancing the game forward through an understanding, and application, of research, science and innovation for all those who play it.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants must be between 14 – 18 years, at time of event. Applicants must reach their 14th birthday on or before the first day of the event and not be a full time college student.

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database at a minimum of Birdie level at the time of application deadline.

  • Active in The First Tee database upon submittal of application.

  • Geared toward participants with an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)

John Deere Power for Good Scholarship Contest: [Deadline: Mar. 24]
This week-long academy is intended for advanced players within the chapter network who are pursuing collegiate golf. The academy provides the competitive experience of playing for a college golf team combined with the college experience through rigorous practice and training, tournament play, dorm living, recruiting education and pertinent guest speakers. Participants will cultivate and develop the golf skills, life skills and health & wellness aspects associated with competing at a higher level.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants must be in the 14-18 age range.

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database for a minimum of 3 years at the time of application deadline. The Home Office will use the participant’s “created on” date in the database to determine if the participant meets the 3 year requirement

 Life Skills & Leadership Academy: [Deadline: April 7]
To develop and educate our participants in multiple aspects such as life skill development through engaging golf activities, college preparatory and dorm living, and career exploration, all while having the opportunity to play championship golf and develop lifelong friendships. Through the week they are inspired to consider how they can return to their chapters and communities and be a leader and role model for other participants.

PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee: [Deadline: May 19]

The PURE Insurance Championship is a premier event intended to showcases the best participants in The First Tee network.  An official PGA TOUR Champions event at Pebble Beach Golf Links on the Monterey Peninsula, the tournament pairs one junior with a PGA TOUR Champions player and two amateurs.  To be selected, juniors are measured in both golf proficiency and life skills knowledge.  The tournament is televised nationally on Golf Channel.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants must be in the 14-18 age range

  • Acceptable Golf Ability – USGA handicap of 6 or better for males and 8 or better for females

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database for a minimum of 3 years at the time of application deadline. The Home Office will use the participant’s “created on” date in the database to determine if the participant meets the 3 year requirement (please see exemptions below for Outstanding Participant Leadership Summit)

  • Classified as a high school freshman, sophomore or junior. High school seniors at the time of application are not eligible to apply as they will be full time college students at the date of the event.

  • Entered in The First Tee participant database at a minimum of Birdie level at the time of application deadline

  • Active in The First Tee database upon submittal of application
