WHYY-TV12 SEEKS TO GAIN 4,800 NEW MEMBERS DURING

SEPTEMBER MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
WHYY’s September Membership Drive, running from Saturday, September 13 to Sunday, September 21, offers an exciting array of programs that will entertain viewers of all ages with music, history, comedy and crafts. The goal for this year’s drive is $590,000 and 4,800 new members.

“Due to the financial support from our members, WHYY is able to extend its services and programs and reach new and diverse communities throughout our region,” said Craig Hamilton, WHYY Executive Director of Development.

On Saturday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m., GREAT CHEFS OF PHILADELPHIA will feature prominent Philadelphia chefs cooking up some of their own creations live in the WHYY studios. Tune in to watch these artisans at work.

At 9:00 p.m., BROADWAY’S LOST TREASURES presents an exceptional line-up of the brightest stars of the American musical theatre performing their signature numbers. This unique visual record of show-stoppers by original cast members features Zero Mostel, Yul Brynner, Carol Channing and Joel Grey, among others, as well as the program’s hosts, Angela Lansbury, Jerry Orbach and Chita Rivera.

On Sunday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m., PLAY PIANO IN A FLASH! features Scott “The Piano Guy” Houston teaching viewers how to play the way the pros do — in a style enormously simpler than traditional classical piano lessons. Houston claims it takes an absolute minimum amount of note reading ability and makes it fun all the way.

At 11:00 p.m., SOUL COMES HOME: A CELEBRATION OF STAX RECORDS AND THE MEMPHIS SOUND captures the once-in-a-lifetime concert held on April 30, 2003, to celebrate the grand opening of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis, Tennessee. This special program features some of soul music’s biggest stars, including Isaac Hayes, Percy Sledge and Al Green, performing their greatest hits at the historic Orpheum Theater.

On Tuesday, September 16 at 8:00 p.m., Oscar-winning actress Dame Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer star in AS TIME GOES BY: YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS, a special in which their characters, Jean and Lionel Hardcastle, reminisce about old times and various events over the past few years.

On Wednesday, September 17 at 10:00 p.m., RED, WHITE AND ROCK is a concert like no other. Legendary artists Frankie Avalon, Jerry Butler, Connie Francis and Frankie Valli host a reunion with over twenty groups performing. Celebrating America and its various music genres, the program takes the musical journey from The Kingsmen’s “Louie, Louie,” to “The Tears of a Clown” by the Miracles, to the romantic classic by the Righteous Brothers “Unchained Melody” to a Connie Francis rendition of “God Bless America.”
