During the course of the project various materials were created by the children and key objectives in social, personal and health education will be addressed. One of the key resources created was this sports manual which created by the partner schools and utilised to create awareness of partner countries in addition to being an important resource for the inter-school event. The partner schools are very grateful to ‘Comenius, The Education and Culture Lifelong learning programme’ for their funding of the project and the respective national agencies in each partner country. Officially REPUBLIC OF TURKEY, in Turkish, TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ, is a country that occupies a unique geographic position, lying partly in Asia and partly in Europe. Through its history it has acted as both a barrier and a bridge between the two continents. Turkey is among the larger countries of the Middle East, in terms of territory and population, and its land area of 300,948 square miles (779,452 square kilometres) is greater than that of any European state. Nearly all of the country is in Asia, comprising the oblong peninsula of Asia Minor, known also as Anatolia (Anadolu). The remainder--Turkish Thrace (Trakya)--lies in the extreme southeastern part of Europe, a tiny remnant of an empire that once extended over much of the Balkans.   
Bartın is the provincial capital of Turkey's Bartın Province. Formerly a district of Zonguldak Province, Bartın has been made into a province seat in 1991 with the constitution of Bartın Province composed of 4 districts (the central Bartın district and 3 depending districts). The city is situated 14 kilometers inland on the Bartın River (Bartın Çayı) which is navigable for vessels between the city and the Black Sea coast. Bartın is one of the centers in Turkey's Black Sea region that is becoming increasingly attractive for tourists. With its rich architectural heritage, Bartın is 80 kilometers east of Zonguldak is on the Black Sea coast of Turkey, the calm city of timbered houses. It's one of the newest provinces of Turkey. The history of the city dates back to 1200 BC, when Gasgas tribe inhabited in the environs. In the following years, the region had entered under the dominance of Hittites, Frigs, Kringens, Kokons , Enets, Kimmers, Lydians, Persians and Macedonians. The historic progress of Bartin continues with the dominance of Roman Empire and Byzantine Empire and later with the dominance of Turkish Seljuks and Candarogullari State between 11th - 13th centuries AD. Bartin was conquered by the Ottoman sultan Yıldırım Bayezit in 1392.
The wooden Bartin houses display the architectural characteristics of the art movements after the Tanzimat Fermani (Reforms Decree). Temperate Black Sea naval climate is experienced in Bartin. Summer seasons are hot while winter seasons are chilly, and lots of rain of course which gives all of its green vegetation of the region. The Bartin River passing through the city gives way to boat trips in the city to catch a glimpse of perfect landscape.
