Chair met with Dr. Dixon to discuss the draft of the Goals and Objectives of the QEP. Dr. Dixon agreed, in principle, with the structure of the QEP. He suggested that Best Practices should be put as a separate section. Discussed briefly with whom who should read the draft of Goals and Objective. Dr. Dixon agreed that the draft can be given to Dr. Walton, Dr. Guyden, Dr. Tunuguntla, Dr. Warner, and Dr. Arhin and few faculty members. The draft should also be discussed with the mathematics faculty members and the faculty members from the departments whose courses will be influenced by the QEP. Dr. Dixon agreed that he will be the final editor of the QEP. During this meeting Dr. Dixon was also made aware about the meetings held with faculty members from Economics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry departments. The issue of including Sociology 101 in the second phase of the QEP was also discussed. Also discussed and confirmed were the QEP Team members who will be working on the QEP during summer 2009.

The mathematics faculty was very supportive of the QEP and discussed several issues important in the development and implementation of the QEP.

Chair met with SACS Coordination and Planning Team member Dr. Janet Guyden to discuss the structure of the QEP. Dr. Sharma also discussed with Dr. Guyden the overall Goal and the Objectives of the QEP. Dr. Guyden appreciated the idea that the goals are based on the Bloom’s Taxonomy and this will provide students an opportunity to systematically progress from the lowest level to the highest learning. Dr. Guyden mentioned that in her opinion keeping only one goal is fine because it tells that the QEP at GSU is focused and well targeted. Dr. Guyden assured to provide the feedback on Goal and Objectives and requested Dr. Sharma to send a copy of the draft.

QEP Chair and Director met with Dean of the School of Education, Dr. Sean Warner. The purpose of the meeting was to get feedback on QEP Goal and Objectives. Dr. Warner was very impressed with the document, especially the link between it and Bloom’s Taxonomy. He recommended that we start to think about evaluation and evaluation rubrics. He offered his help and the support of the College of Education faculty in the development of the QEP.

Meeting with faculty from involved QEP departments.
|
Four members of the QEP team (Dr. Sharma, Mrs. Young, Dr. Sims, and Dr. Greene) met with 11 faculty members from other departments(four from Biology, one from Chemistry, three from Economics, and three from Physics) to discuss the objective on the Quantitative literacy. The faculty members were very supportive of this objective and agreed that proper implementation of this objective will help students in developing their quantitative skills. The participating members discussed the matrices that were developed for several courses offered in these departments. These matrices provide correspondence between the various mathematics concepts and the concepts taught in these courses. These faculty members were also willing to provide feedback on other objectives of the QEP.

Dr. Sharma, Mrs. Young, and Dr. Greene met with Provost to discuss Goal and Objectives and other related issues with the QEP. Provost stated that document had a good foundation and, in principle, agrees with the structure of the QEP as developed. During this meeting the issue was raised about the number of goals. It was tentatively agreed that the Overall Goal can be viewed as the QEP Vision and the objectives may be replaced as goals. Dr. Dixon suggested that a thorough literature search must be made on Best Practices.
