In order to assess economic status, we tend to use the NRS (National Readership Survey) social grading:
The social grade using the National Readership Survey (NRS) is always calculated based upon the employment profile of the head of the respondent’s household.
Social grades in NRS are equivalent to the following employment categories:
A/B Higher and intermediate managerial/administrative/professional
C1 Supervisory clerical junior managerial/administrative/professional
C2 Skilled manual workers
D/E Semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers/ on benefits
Although it is just the respondent being categorised, we tend to view this as a good measure of the entire audience when applied across the total attendance at any event or venue.
