Dads Pitchers Dazzle

Hickory’s 4-1 start has been built almost exclusively on its stellar pitching early in 2008. The Crawdads lead the league in ERA and opponents’ batting average, led by a string of quality starting efforts. Of the team’s six earned runs allowed, four came in the fifth inning of Hickory’s season-opening loss to West Virginia, all against tonight’s starter Matt Foust in relief that night. Hickory’s starters have combined for two earned runs in 23 innings pitched.

Offense Arrives

Hickory’s bats finally caught up to its arms in a 7-2 win over Greensboro last night. After combining for just eight runs in four games against West Virginia, the Crawdads set high team marks for both runs (7) and hits (12) in a game in the victory over the Grasshoppers. Eight of the nine members of Hickory’s lineup grabbed a hit and seven of the nine either scored or drove in a run.

Hickory’s Goin’ Streaking

The Crawdads already possessed the league’s longest winning streak of the year entering last night before they extended it to four straight games. The closest streaks to Hickory belong to Southern Division clubs Asheville and Rome, each winners of two straight.
