IntroductionSystem OverviewThe FS-03 system is a complete solution for high quality group teleconferencing. The system maintains exceptional audio quality in small to large conference spaces and provides multiple inputs for program sources. The FS-03 uses digital signal processing to realize the sound quality of CTG’s teleconferencing microphones, and to maximize intelligibility. The FS-03 Advanced Teleconference Interface ships pre-configured for CTG ceiling and/or table microphones with eight stored configurations that will satisfy most room situations. The presets are recalled through the Logic Input connection to allow configurations for various room conditions, and A/V integrations. The pre-calibrated state of the FS-03 enables any installer to reach the same performance results. For a description and specific use discussion of the eight presets see pages 15-17. CTG software is available for configuring the FS-03 in difficult or unusual situations not covered by these presets. Ceiling RequirementsThe benefits of the CTG ceiling microphones make them a preferred choice. These microphones will offer the highest level of performance when installed in an acoustic drop ceiling no higher than 10-feet. Optimum performance in acoustic drop ceilings Ceiling height should not exceed 10 feet Noise Sources Unwanted noise will distract the far end of teleconference and compromise intelligibility. Common ceiling noise sources include HVAC and projectors. Any conference room should have a low noise level allowing people to speak to each other comfortably in the room, as well as while teleconferencing. HVAC noise typically results when a high velocity of air is forced through a small opening. Often the heating/cooling system may be quieted while maintaining a comfortable climate. While CTG employs several techniques to electronically reduce noise, proper microphone placement is an important consideration. 
Airflow from a vent should not blow directly on a microphone Try to keep at least 3 to 6 feet between an air vent and a microphone Microphones should be spaced a minimum of 8 feet apart Projector noise will produce the same unwanted effect as HVAC noise. The same consideration should be used with projectors as discussed above for noisy vents. Most manufacturers’ specify the noise rating in dB of their projectors. If practical, avoid placing microphones near projectors or their cooling fans. Conditions for Ceiling or Table Microphone Systems The chart below illustrates the sensitivity of the human ear to sound intensity as a function of frequency. Noise is usually specified in terms of Noise Criteria (NC) levels. The recommended NC range for conference rooms is 35 to 45. The lower NC the better for good intelligibility. This results in noise that, within the frequency range of human speech, is easily over ridden at normal conversational levels. Conversational average speech levels are about 70dB. If the maximum ambient noise in a room, in the frequency range of speech, is 45dB or less a speaker’s voice will be 25dB or more above the noise level and be easily heard by others in the room and at the far end of a teleconference.
