Specifications- The Nexus 9 features an 8.9 inch IPS display which provides the tablet with vibrant colours and fantastic viewing angles for the users. The resolution of the screen is 1536 x 2048 with a 4:3 aspect ratio that is common among tablets and larger devices. Having an IPS screen as opposed to a TN display suggests that the Nexus 9 is designed to give the user a solid image quality and a good black to black colour contrast. While this is nothing new, with most devices now being aimed towards sharper, crisper images such as Apple’s retina displays, HTC have clearly made the right choice. It features a 1.6MP front camera accompanied with two dual front speakers which were absent on the Nexus’ predecessor. The tablet has an 8MP camera with an LED flashlight for high quality pictures. It would appear that HTC have taken their time contemplating the sleek but simple design of the tablet. However, the engine behind the device is just as impressive. It is powered by the Nvidia Tegra K1, Nvidia’s leading mobile processor. With a maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz, 192 CUDA cores and its 28nm technology, making the Nexus 9 is one of the most powerful mobile devices on the market. This tablet is more powerful than most, if not all, laptops between the price of £200-300. That is impressive to say the least for a mobile device. The GPU unit, integrated within the Tegra CPU, is a scaled-down version of Nvidia’s Kepler line of desktop GPU’s. Graphical benchmarks in programs such as 3DMark, BaseMark X and GFXBench place the Nexus within the top 3 spot competing with the Nvidia Shield and the Apple iPad Air 2. These tests suggest that the Nexus 9 excels in graphical performance as opposed to those that are CPU heavy. Nevertheless, I think that it would be challenging to make a game that this tablet would not be able to handle, especially since our game is only a low spec and non-demanding 2D game. What also sets the Nexus apart from other devices is the 2GB of main memory. Good performance can be achieved with half of this amount of memory but the Nexus can operate very demanding applications due to this. This allows the tablet to run quickly and smoothly in cooperation with the new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.
