Add fallback & LKF loading

  1. Introduction


This procedure is intended to describe the operations required to perform the M-MGw upgrade to R6.4.0.0 using the tool SMO in OSS RC. This procedure is valid for the following hardware:

  • GMPv2

  • GMPv3

  • GMpv4



  1. Preparations

    1. SW Gateway


Go to the Product Line Maintenance for MGw support and find the needed software package.


Login to the Software Gateway to be able to download the package.

In the Software Gateway search for the correct Ticket no and see if it is available for correct Target group. Download the package to your local pc.





    1. Upload SW package to OSS


Download the SW package to your local harddrive and upload via filezilla in citrix the package to the OSS system.
    1. Import SW upgrade package into SMO Delivery directory


The SW package needs to be imported into the SMO-delivery directory. This can be achieved by below steps.

Click on the SMO File Store icon on the left. On the right panel in SMO click right on Delivery and import files.



In the next menu select the upgrade package and click import.





Wait for the progress indicator to show 100% and click close.



Set Main Software FTP Service, SMSRS







    1. Import SW upgrade package into SMO


In SMO, click on SoftwareImport SW Packages

In the next window, choose the file that was imported in Delivery in the previous step, then click on NextNextFinish






  1. Implementation

    1. Install upgrade package


In the left part of SMO, click on Software.

In the center part of SMO, click right on the upgrade package and select


Upgrade NE.

In the new window, click on Add and select the MGw to upgrade.




click on the icon “>>” and then on OK.

Click on Next twice.

In the description, select :



  • Installation

  • Verify Upgrade

For the Mode, choose : Immediate

Unselect all other options.

Click on Next.

In the folder Job Parameters, choose the XML file that corresponds to the type of M-MGw to upgrade. It is possible to know the type of M-MGw with the command:

get ConfigurationVersion=1

eg. MGw WA





In the folder Installation, choose Full installation.



Click on “Next”;

Summary of the job configuration.

Click on “Finish” and wait a few minutes. The installation will begin. You may monitor the log of the operation in “Jobs”.




    1. Create CV


Backup a CV (cvms) before the upgrade and upload it to OSS and if wanted put it on ftp hotel.

SMO  Network  ONRM_RootMo   Folder “Config”

Click right on the CV made previously and choose Upload CV.

In the new window, click on OK (Result:The job should go to 100%)





    1. Verification and upgrade


At this stage we start the verification again and perform the upgrade frp, R6.1.3.0 towards R6.3.2.0.

In the left part of SMO, click on Software. In the center part of SMO, click right on the description = MGW_MAIN_R6_CNP_R6.3.2.0D, choose Upgrade NE.




In the new window, click on Add, select the M-MGw to upgrade, click on the icon “>>” and then on OK.



Click on Next twice.

In the description, select :


  • Verify Upgrade = immediate

  • Upgrade = immediate

  • Confirm Upgrade = immediate

  • SWAdjust = immediate

Unselect all other options.


Click on Next.

In the folder Job Parameters, choose le XML file that corresponds to the type of M-MGw to upgrade. It is possible to know the type of M-MGw with the command:



get ConfigurationVersion=1

In the folder Upgrade, choose Reboot node upgrade.




Click on Next.

Click on Finish.


In the left part of SMO, click on the Jobs icon.

The job created at the previous step is on the first line. Wait until the script is


at 100%.


The Verify Upgrade part will take about 1 minute.

The Upgrade part will take about 25 minutes.



Restart of the M-MGw at the end of the upgrade (~ 1 minute).

The Confirm Upgrade part takes about 2 minutes.

The SW Adjust part takes about 1 minute.

    1. Fallback


Fallback will be done with SMO. Other possibilities are with moshell, amos or node manager.

In SMO click Network and look for your node. Then click on the Config Tab and look for the cv made before the upgrade. Right mouse click and choose set startable cv….





Press OK.



Wait till job is finished and check startable cv.

Go to Network and find your node, right click and Restart NE

Perform a Cold restart. Now the node is restarting on the cv created before the upgrade.





Load License Key File


Before upgrade we need to load the new LKF which includes the feature AoIP.
The LKF must match with the fingerprint of the node and must be the format of .ZIP.

Choose Network  Applicable MGW  Adjust

This needs to be done so all relevant info concerning license is “imported” in SMO.


Don’t forget to tick “adjust license”!



These LKFs needs to be transferred to OSS eg. Home/user in zip format!

SMO File Store  Delivery  Import. files

Choose the License Key File and Import.




Licenses  Import LKF Batch File







Network  MGw then right click and “install license key files”


Select network element




Remove all other licenses and leave only the one just imported.

Finish, job will start and lkf will be installed, see jobs.
