Guidelines for completing the Artist in Residence Application Form


1 Artists need to be Canadian Citizens and recognized as a professional within a creative field.
2 All sections of the application form need to be completed and submitted in order for the application to be considered.

  • Please submit this form via email to mikwchiyam@gmail.com

  • Digital signatures and scanned signed documents will be accepted as original copies.

  • The text must be written using a minimum 11 point font size.

  • Documents or appendices that are not specifically requested in the application form will not be considered for evaluation.

  • Please respect the maximum number of words indicated for each response.


3 All artists must submit an estimated budget that corresponds with the outlined budgetary restrictions.

Describe your professional practice and the nature of your artistic activities (maximum 250 words).

Why do you wish to do this particular residency? For example, describe your interest in the location and/or style of this residency and its relationship to your artistic practice (maximum 250 words).




D Student Project Description

Describe the individual and collaborative student projects that you would like to propose and the projected artistic outcomes of these projects. This description should also state, in the most concrete way possible the process through which the students will engage with the artistic medium and how their individual and collective voices will be showcased through the work.

In this section please outline a tentative workshop plan that indicates the progression of learning from week to week. Provide a short description of steps taken with students during each phase. The artist will have approximately 3-4 workshop hours per week with the student group.

Personal Project Description

In this section please outline your project proposal for the personal work that you will explore during the 7 week residency. This project should be related in some way to the proposed student project and will be presented alongside the students’ works at the end of the residency. Artists will have approximately 2-4 hours of scheduled studio time per day as well as one full studio day per 6 day cycle. (Maximum 500 words – attached in a separate document)




E  Tentative Budget

Please provide a detailed budget indicating clearly the materials needed to execute the student project and their associated costs. Budget should be based on facilitating workshops for 7 weeks with 1 group of up to 25 students. Cost of materials for the student project cannot exceed the amount of $1000.00.

*Artists are responsible for providing materials and equipment needed for the production of their personal works.
