Visual Arts Commission Summary: An Lanntair is looking for artists to apply for two visual arts commissions based around the bus routes of the Isles of Lewis and Harris.
Artwork produced is to be installed and exhibited in the iconic concrete bus shelters on the island.
Background: An Lanntair received funding to deliver ‘Uncharted’ (an island wide youth arts engagement project) from Creative Scotland’s Time to Shine programme. Uncharted has set up fully equipped ‘Art Labs’ in remote locations around the island, initiated creative mapping projects in rural schools and provided young people the opportunity to become critically engaged in the arts.
This new artist commission will form part of this project, working with young artist(s) from the Art Labs. It will also connect with the new Creative Place Awards project, Bealach, which is all about promoting and profiling the creative Gaelic communities of the Isles of Lewis and Harris.
Call for proposals: Artists are invited to submit proposals to ‘Mapping the Arteries’. Mapping the Arteries is a commission in which the artist is asked to produce a piece of artwork inspired by a bus route around Lewis and Harris that the artist chooses.
The artist will spend a time travelling the bus route gaining inspiration for their final piece. Selected artists will also mentor a young artist who will also be producing artwork around the same theme.
Two commissions will be available for this project.
Budget: The artist fee for the commission will be a maximum of £2,200 per commission, which will need to include for all materials.
Locations and installation: Artwork produced through commissions must be designed to fit within the iconic concrete bus shelters of the Western Isles.
Images of work produced will also be part of a limited edition colour publication.
Submission details: Artists should send CV and a short proposal including:
