Minutes of meeting Derby Cycling Group Tuesday 5th July 2011 Brunswick

Present:

Tony Roelich, Ian Alexander (Chair), Dave Clasby, John Palmer, Martin Aldred, Ian Care, Les Sims, Ian Dent. Lucy Care, Dave Waldram, Martin Quarton, Nigel Aspdin, Mark Crossley, Vijaya Ramisetti (vijaymec@gmail.com).

Minutes of meeting
Minutes were read and agreed. Agenda is being sent out by the Chair of the next meeting. Will put in an appeal into the newsletter for an editor.
Actions Arising
TR to contact Andy Smart on going. TR is waiting to start the Eastern Fringes campaign. Council are doing a consultation on redevelopment areas so watch this space for when we can input. Contacted Andy Smart but he’s off got a new contact

TR to request meeting with the developer. On going.

DC to get onto DCC about non reacting lights. Les had got onto Tony G and someone went out to adjust they are better on Uttoxeter New Road. DC had written to Dave Powner, no reply. Ian Wallis is a good signals man. DC has had name Nigel Brien will follow up. DC has contacted Nigel Brien
LC suggest leaflet on Ring Road by DCC. LC spoken to Dave Powner, Ruth Sadler made suggestion of download. LC to contact DCC to ask them to produce a downloadable leaflet. On going. On going
Campaigns:
Station

MA reported back, 75 page report on station forecourt. Area of conflict Nelson Street, auditors told designers to do something about it. We support cyclists using Nelson St. MA to feedback.

Connectivity issues for Pride Park and old DRI site.

228 double decked cycle storage.

Location of Sheffield stands should stay where they are. MA feedback.
Riverside/ Fleam

DC done site visit.

TR they are doing it anyway, they should make the desire line safe which is along. It is round the back of bus station. DC to put Sustrans position, Matt Easter RD to be contacted. TR to put the DCG position.

Bridge over Fleam is good and nearly finished and should be part of the temp solution.


Friargate

We want a ramp going from Vernon St into the site. Steps are horrid, 1960’s. TR to put reply to application on this matter. Other issues re cycle access been resolved better. This is outline planning permission. Concern over rest of site and cycle routes, we want cycle storage for the housing.


Connecting Derby

Cheapside

No mandate to do this. Going against the basis of Connecting Derby.

Step 1 Celebrate the improvement, press release from DCG. DC to do. Cut out the rat runs, improved quality for walking and cycling, reduced. DC to email members to contact councillors about city centres improvements. Photo oppo Friargate Bridge. Offer to do a ride round Connecting Derby, week beginning July 18th. MC offered to put press releases on the website.

Step 2 Campaign against the changes focussing on the costs.
LSTF

Priority bid has been rejected.


Burnaston House

Amended planning application August 2nd to rebuild. 10 cars included in application.

Delegated powers to councillors, large applications go to Planning committee, also if significant number of objections or a councillor objects. We are objecting to the crossing not the house. DCG and CTC have objected
University Queensway Route

Meeting in July, 106 provision for a plan for improving. DC to keep watching brief


Bike Week
DC did a Derby Focus event in Bike Week. Got £25 donation which was for group membership for a year. They are interested in developing links with us.
Membership
Nothing has really happened. MC, ID and TR to meet re membership.
Newsletter
Next newsletter due in September.

IA to send out email to committee members requesting articles. Vijay to be included and articles to be returned to VJ. ID and IA are going to provide support for the first issue of the newsletter. ID, IA and VJ are newsletter subgroup.
Website

DC to meet John Elliot to discuss new website on Thurs.

East Midlands Cycle Forum
Venue not agreed. Derby College as possible venue. Also Brunswick, Waterfall.

East Midlands Trains been invited by DC.

LC local government how to get the best out of it as a workshop.
Freedom of Information Richard Butler

Planning Applications how to object to them and to support them

How to engage with the Local Democratic.
