Gage Triage Analysis For MSA Studies
Separating the Vital Few from the Trivial Many
Dr. Victor E. Kane, Kennesaw State University
|
During this presentation Dr. Kane will discuss his recent article in the February issue of Six Sigma Forum Magazine. A gage triage analysis approach would be beneficial in multiple applications, such as a Six Sigma project involving many gages, seeking involvement of team members in the evaluation of their gages, manufacturing gage surveillance programs, and troubleshooting complex, unfamiliar supplier processes. Using the ANOVA approach may not be practical in the initial evaluation phase. A shorter range based approach is called gage triage analysis (GTA), which will be discussed.
Dr. Kane is an Associate Professor of Statistics at Kennesaw State University. He teaches graduate and undergraduate statistics and specializes in Six Sigma, Quality Control, and Design of Experiments. After graduating from Emory, Dr. Kane received a Ph.D. in statistics from Florida State University and an M.B.A. in management from the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Kane comes to Atlanta from a 20-year career with Ford Motor Company. He served in many management positions the last being plant manager of a 3 million sq. ft. transmission manufacturing facility with 2500 employees. While at Ford, Dr. Kane championed many quality improvement efforts including a Dimensional Control Planning process and system-wide Error Proofing methods. Dr. Kane has served as an examiner for both the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the Georgia Oglethorpe Award.
Dr. Kane has 3 published articles in ASQs Six Sigma Forum journal. The most recent article is in February of this year that is the topic of tonight's discussion.

The American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification program was developed more than 30 years ago to recognize those individuals who have demonstrated proficiency within a specified body of knowledge. These refreshers provide an excellent foundation for those pursuing ASQ certification. Refreshers are taught by experts in the field. Each refresher is designed to review the body of knowledge specified for each certification. The workshops will review topic areas crucial to the exams; but, are not designed to teach all of the material found on the certification exams. The refreshers are not intended to replace the years of experience and/or formal education required for certification. Registration for exams must be completed with ASQ in Milwaukee. Please call 1-800-248-1946 for specific exam registration. Information is also available at ASQ Greater Atlanta Section 1502.
Certification
Certification is formal recognition by ASQ that an individual has demonstrated proficiency within and a comprehension of a specified body of knowledge at a point in time. It is peer recognition and not registration or licensure. Since 1968, when the first ASQ certification exam was given, more than 85,000 individuals have become certified through ASQ, including many who have attained more than one designation. Although ASQ membership is not a prerequisite for certification, most of the people who hold one of these designations do belong to the Society.
