PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Rooney Visiting International Scholar will be in residence at Robert Morris University (RMU), near Pittsburgh PA. The Rooney Scholar will work closely with faculty, students, administrators, and local international organizations to enhance and promote academic programs, global understanding, and research at RMU. Rooney Scholars offer a unique opportunity for faculty, students and others to learn about the theory and practice of their discipline in other countries by collaborating with faculty and students with mutual teaching and research. Rooney Scholars will also promote programs of a broad cultural interest while residing at RMU. During their tenure at Robert Morris University, Rooney Scholars are expected to conduct presentations, seminars and/or workshops both on their teaching and research areas, open to faculty, students, and the public and may also collaborate with Robert Morris faculty and students to jointly submit papers to journals and conferences. In addition, Rooney Scholars will host social events designed to bring together people of mutual interests in an open and inviting atmosphere.


The Rooney Scholar will be provided with accommodation at the Rooney House on the Robert Morris University campus. Travel expenses will be provided and well as an automobile for their use (valid driver’s license required). Financial Assistance and living expenses are negotiable based on qualifications.

APPLICATION REVIEW PROCEDURES
The applicant will have the Ph.D. or an advanced degree in a related discipline offered at Robert Morris University or significant experience in an area of cultural or humanitarian interest to the university. Applicants should have a distinguished academic and/or professional record, and must be committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Applicants must also demonstrate leadership skills, communications skills in English, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with others in an academic environment.
The application procedure involves the following:


  1. International Visiting Scholar Application Form

  2. A copy of the curriculum vitae

  3. Names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mails of three references

  4. A description of the proposed topic and work plan (approximately 2,000 words)

  5. A description of teaching area and teaching objectives

  6. A copy of a recent writing sample, e.g., paper, research proposal, report

  7. A description of the request and rationale for financial support, other sources of income, and projected travel expenses.


DEADLINE: Priority Consideration will be given to applications received by:

November 7, 2016 for Fall 2017 or Spring 2018 residence.

Applications will be accepted until the Rooney Scholar positions are filled, however, applications must be submitted at least four months in advance of the proposed period of residence.
