RELA Survival Quest

Introduction You are a high school student.  YES YOU MADE IT!!!! Your job is to complete all of the assigned tasks.  It is imperative that you follow all directions carefully and completely in order to successfully accomplish your goal.  You may ask questions at any time.  Happy searching!

Tasks

  1. Your first task is to use your resources to define the following class terms. Use the AlphaSmart keyboards to type your definitions, or write them on C Notes paper.

Your second task is to use your resources to define each RELA genre, and locate examples of each type.

  1. Your third task You will write two compositions, each one page long:

    1. An imaginative story about this class (make it up- use your imagination!)

    2. A “Survival Letter” to an incoming 8th grader for next year

4. Your final task You will create a Portfolio that includes all of the information from tasks 1-3.  APPEARANCE OF YOUR NOTEBOOK MATTERS- LOOK PROFESSIONAL. You need a cover page.

  3. Two originally written compositions- you may illustrate/decorate these for the new students.

Process
Process for Task 1

  1. Use available resources to define the class terms given.

  2. Type these terms and definitions with the AlphaSmarts.

  3. Label your page "Class Terms” and type your name on it.

  4. Print this page and place it in your portfolio.


Process for Task 2

  1. Use available resources to search for definitions for each type of genre.

  2. Type these terms and definitions with the AlphaSmarts.

  3. Label your page "Genres” and type your name on it.

  4. Print this page and place it in your portfolio.


Process for Task 3

  1. Write your own original compositions

  2. Type your compositions using AlphaSmarts.

  3. Each student must have his/her own original compositions.

  4. You may illustrate each composition. Don't be afraid to be creative.

  5. Print your compositions and put them in your portfolio.


Process for Task 4

1. Design a cover sheet for your RELA Suvival Portfolio. This cover sheet should your name and a title. Add color, and be creative!



2. Separate your Poetry Portfolio into three sections:

  • Class Terms

  • RELA Genres

  • Original Compositions

3. Add a copy of the rubric. After you have studied it, place it in your portfolio as the last page. This sheet will be used for grading.
