PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The City of Atlanta, The Neighborhood Fund, and Hands On Atlanta proudly present Love Your Block, a program to support citizens and neighborhood groups who want to plan and organize efforts to beautify Atlanta, block by block. Here’s how it works: Atlanta residents and neighborhood groups across the city are invited to submit the attached application for mini-grants of up to $1,000 to improve their communities. With these grant funds, winning groups can purchase materials, engage their neighbors, and roll up their sleeves! Typical project proposals include:

  1. Creating Public Spaces: Community gardens, pocket parks, green spaces, or playing fields

  2. Enhancing Green Spaces: Bench seating, garden beds, playgrounds, picnic areas, shrub / flower plantings

  3. Providing Exterior Maintenance: Painting, landscaping, physical improvements, etc. of a low-income resident or veteran’s homes in order to resolve housing code violations

  4. Streetscaping: Planting trees & flowers along curbs / entry-ways, sprucing up neighborhood signs

  5. Graffiti and Litter Removal: Tire dumping, neighborhood clean-ups, swapping graffiti for murals

  6. Sprucing up of Pathways: Safe bus routes, mulch walk pathways, clear overgrowth areas on trails

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
******Individuals, For-profit businesses, and Public institutions are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply.
All successful applications must demonstrate the following:

  • Applicants reside and projects take place within the City of Atlanta limits.

  • Ability to mobilize a minimum of 10 neighborhood volunteers during the project’s grant cycle. At least 5 participants are unrelated (not family), and reside within the same community.

  • Groups have demonstrated a past working history.  Applicant groups do not need to have nonprofit tax exempt status such as a 501(c)3. However, all groups MUST have an Employer Identification Number (EIN).

  • Groups MUST have a structure for managing all incoming cash or in-kind donations. A bank account matching the group’s name (with verification of at least two signatures) is required to receive funding. No funding will be allocated to an individual.

  • Completion of at least two of the five types of activities listed above.

  • A detailed and realistic action plan for enlisting necessary resources, including: recruitment of volunteers, purchasing and/or borrowing of all supplies and materials.

  • Projects to be completed within 2-4 months of grant award.

  • Proposed project demonstrates clear community support and participation. All projects MUST receive appropriate city permits and approvals.

  • Provide a reasonable budget and request amount. Love Your Block does NOT fund food & beverages, promotional materials, trash cans, truck rentals, or the purchasing of tools.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. All grantees are required to attend a MANDATORY orientation that will cover important LYB program details, requirements, and disbursement of funds. Failure to comply will result in the forfeit of the grant.

  1. Grantees are required to submit an End-of-Grant Report with original receipts when the entire project is completed. Any group that fails to submit this required report will not be considered for future grants.
