Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the above 2 year fixed-term, half-time post at the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology. This position is funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies and is available from May 2014 to contract end date of April 2016.
Job Description:

The successful candidate will support Professor Eamon O’Shea in carrying out an evaluation of Atlantic Philanthropies (AP) investment in dementia care in Ireland. A series of strategic programme assessments will be conducted to identify lessons and describe how AP grant activities in dementia permeate into the policy process, both directly and indirectly, and influence practice, policy formulation and decision making. Secondary data analysis and report writing for policy-makers will also be a feature of the work.


Qualifications:

Applicants must have



  • Relevant PhD or direct research experience of working on large-scale dementia projects, including carrying out programme evaluation at a national level, and an understanding of clinical trials.

  • Experience of initiating, designing and implementing research projects in the ageing sector.

  • Knowledge and appropriate experience of using quantitative, qualitative and mixed-method approaches to social research.

  • Excellent and demonstrable knowledge of relevant computer software (including, for example, MS Office, quantitative data analysis software [e.g. SPSS, STATA] and qualitative data analysis software [e.g. Nvivo]).

  • Advanced project management skills, including database management.

  • Excellent communication skills.

Experience of developing multimedia products is desirable. Ideally, applicants will also have previous experience of collaboration with clinically-based researchers.


Salary: €37,750 to €46,255, per annum, pro rata for shorter / part-time contracts (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply) For non-EU applicants employment permit restrictions apply for this category of post.
Start date: May 2014
