School Photograph

The school group photograph with all our pupils has arrived and is displayed in the entrance hall. Anyone wishing to see the photograph before purchasing a copy is very welcome. You may wish to view this photograph before 9 o’clock or after 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock or 4 o’clock when you are collecting your child.

Football coaching P1 – P7

Neal Morrison, an IFA football coach joins P1 – P7 every Monday to develop their skills and this will continue during the 2012/13 academic year. This year Marie Curie Cancer Care is the chosen charity of the IFA and Neal has asked us to participate in a Dribblethon on Monday the 15th April during our normal Monday training sessions with each child bringing

£1.00 to support this important charity.
Piano Lessons

Piano lessons continue every Wednesday with

Mrs Shirley Walker.
Swimming




Swimming begins on Wednesday 10th April for P4 and P5 and continues for 10 weeks. Please remember swimming hats and goggles. Happy swimming!

French Classes – Monthly payment




French classes with tutor Diane Daly continue each Thursday. The total cost for the month of April will be £2.40. We would be grateful if the money for French classes was placed in an envelope and returned to school by Friday 19th April.


Springhill Visit – Tuesday 9th April – The Evacuees
P3, P4 and P5 travelled to Springhill on Tuesday 9th April and participated in a programme entitled ‘The Evacuees’. The pupils toured the estate with members of the Home Guard. They experienced the effects of rationing as they weighed out their weekly sweet ration, learned how to make do and mend, and to dig for victory. Pupils also assisted the Home Guard in the search for an escaped prisoner. The pupils enjoyed their time at Springhill.
Personal Development Programme – P7
As part of the personal development programme, P7 will attend a workshop run by the SELB Pastoral Care Team in conjunction with Love for Live on Friday 12th April in Drumglass High School.
Springhill Visit – Changing Times - P1 and P2
P1 and P2 will travel to Springhill on Wednesday 17th April to participate in a programme called Changing Times. The pupils will tour the house and visit the Victorian Schoolroom enabling the children to explore how people and places have changed over time by dressing in costume, playing with toys and enjoying games of a by-gone era.

Tri-County Schools’ Fun Day
P6 and P7 will travel to the Loughview Sports Centre, Dungannon on Thursday 18th April to participate in the Indoor Mini Soccer Sevens Fun Day. We would like to wish our team every success in their forthcoming matches. Remember a packed lunch will be required.


Sainsbury’s Vouchers

Please help us by collecting Sainsbury’s Vouchers. They are available until the 22nd May and we hope to use the vouchers to buy sports equipment.




After School Clubs


Primary 7 pupils have the opportunity to complete the Heartstart programme with Mrs Millar, beginning on Monday 15th April (3pm – 4pm) and continuing for 6 weeks. The programme includes skills such as:

  • assessing an unconscious patient,

  • performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),

  • dealing with choking,

  • serious bleeding,

  • helping someone that may be having a heart attack.





P4, P5 and P6 are invited to join the Eco-Schools Club .with Mrs Jenkins and Miss Hanthorn. This club will meet on Monday afternoons from 3pm-4pm when pupils will have the opportunity to help with recycling and planting activities.


Badminton begins on Tuesday 11th April (3pm – 4pm) for P4, P5 and P6 pupils with Mrs Jenkins. Come along and try out your skill.






Cycling Proficiency begins on Tuesday 11th April (3pm – 4pm) for P7 pupils. Pupils must ensure that their bicycle is in good working order and they must wear a helmet during all lessons.








Athletics begins on Wednesday 17th April for all P4 – P7 pupils for 10 weeks with coach Ryan O’Neill. There is a cost of £10.00 per pupil to cover coaching. Please complete permission slip and return with fee prior to sessions beginning.


The drama club continues every Friday for P1, P2 and P3 (2pm–3pm). Tutor Andrea O’Rourke will lead weekly workshops designed to enhance the 5c’s in children – Confidence, Co-ordination, Concentration, Creativity and Communication. Friday 12th April is week 10 of block 2 of these sessions. A new block of 10 weeks begins on Friday 19th April. If your child wishes to attend please complete the permission slip and return with fee of £10.00 prior to the next block beginning.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club continues as usual every Friday morning. Breakfast will be served from 8.15am – 8.50am. A variety of cereals, toast and pancakes are available, as well as fruit juice and fresh fruit. Games and activities are organised and everyone may participate.

P1, P2 and P3 have the opportunity to remain in school every Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 3pm and enjoy some fun time... games galore!
