1.03 CREW
All work shall be performed by a minimum crew of two, one of who shall be designated by the Contractor as the lead person.
PART 2 - EXECUTION
2.01 SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS
Not later than one week after Notice to Proceed, the Contractor shall furnish a schedule showing lawns to be mowed on individual days of the week, Monday through Friday, for the year. This schedule must be adhered to and is necessary to avoid conflict with programmed automatic watering.
The Contractor shall advise the Landscape Supervisor if sprinkling inadvertently affects the mowing.
If inclement weather delays the mowing schedule, the Contractor shall notify the Landscape Supervisor within one day and shall reschedule the delayed mowing for completion at the earliest possible date.
2.02 MOWING
Lawns are to be mowed according to schedule (see 3.01), unless otherwise directed by the Landscape Supervisor (see 2.10).
The first mowing of the season will not remove excessive growth resulting in lawns browning. Height from winter's growth will be taken down gradually. Mowing height thereafter shall be 1 1/2" - 2”.
Lawns shall be mowed in different directions (900 from each other) on alternate weeks to inhibit matting. If riding mowers are used, they shall not leave tire ruts or wear patterns on lawn.
All established lawn edging at curbs, sidewalks, driveways, tree wells, planted or unplanted beds shall be neatly cut by mowers at the time the contiguous lawn is mowed.
2.03 TRIMMING
Lawn areas which are not easily accessible to power mowers shall be appropriately trimmed to the required height with suitable equipment such as string trimmers (weed-eaters), clippers or special mowers.
Such areas will include narrow strips adjacent to walls, poles, signs, trees, garden beds and hydrants. Areas which have been landscaped to extend lawn to walls, poles and hydrants shall also be trimmed.
When using string trimmers, special care shall be taken to insure that no damage is caused to bark of adjacent trees or shrubs.

2.04 SPRINKLER HEADS
Sprinkler heads shall be trimmed the first mowing of every month to prevent grass from covering and/or obstructing them. Scalping lawn with a string trimmer is unacceptable. Clearing heads should result in a clean, neat opening in the lawn. "Cookie cutter" type tools for trimming around heads is ideal. Soil surrounding heads should not be removed, which exposes the head leaving it vulnerable to damage.
2.05 EDGING
All lawns ( except those specified differently in1.02 ) shall be edged twice a month during those months scheduled for more than two mowings. Otherwise once a month is adequate. ( See 3.01) The true line of the established edge must be maintained and sod not unnecessarily removed. Trimmings shall be removed from the site. All edges where lawn meets curbing, sidewalks, planting beds, tree wells or pavers shall be edged with a power edging tool with a blade.

2.06 LAWN FERTILIZER
Lawn fertilizer will be applied by City Light Department personnel. Fertilizer will be a granular product intended to promote slow uniform growth of lawn. No fertilizer shall be applied by the Contractor.
2.07 HERBICIDE SPRAYS
No chemicals or herbicide sprays shall be used by the Contractor. City Light may apply herbicides and will arrange with the Contractor to eliminate mowing of certain lawns for the purpose of herbicide applications.
2.08 CLEANUP
All debris, papers, leaves, twigs, dog feces and other litter on the lawn, along with all grass clippings and trimmings at each station and from any sidewalks, ditches or other frontage areas at all locations covered by this contract, shall be picked up at time of mowing, and removed from the property by contractor.

2.09 LAWN DAMAGE
Any lawn damage caused by known or unknown parties shall be reported by the Contractor to the Landscape Supervisor within 24 hours of discovery, to facilitate repairs before the next scheduled mowing date. If lawn damage is not repaired by the next mowing, the Contractor shall mow around the damaged area until the lawn is repaired.
2.10 MODIFIED SCHEDULE
City Light maintains the right to eliminate sites from the contract during the mowing season due to budget cuts, lawn or irrigation work, mandatory watering restrictions, weed control or the sale of property.
One week prior notification will be made to the contractor by the Landscape Supervisor if work sites are to be deleted from contract.
The contractor must be willing to adapt to these contract modifications in

a timely manner.

2.11 INSPECTION OF WORK
The Landscape Supervisor or designee will inspect each job location periodically to determine if the Contractor has maintained the lawns as required by the specifications. Corrections or improvements may be requested at any time if work performed falls below contract standards.
A copy of the Seattle City Light Lawn Maintenance Inspection Report (Ref. Page 6) will be provided to the contractor. This report will function as the written notification of work that has been rejected and will be excluded from payment.
Reported deficiencies at any job location must be corrected before the next scheduled date for lawn maintenance at that location.
If the Landscape Supervisor determines that significant deficiencies have not been corrected by such scheduled date, he/she shall notify the Contractor in writing that the work for that week at those stations is rejected and will be excluded from any future progress or final payment.
2.12 FAILURE TO MAINTAIN LAWNS WEEKLY
Failure by the Contractor to carry out satisfactory maintenance within seven (7) days of receipt of written notice by the Landscape Supervisor that reported deficiencies have not been corrected will be sufficient reason for the Owner to employ, by contract or otherwise, any person or persons to correct the deficiency or deficiencies. Any costs associated with the employment of such person or persons will be deducted from monies due the Contractor as monthly progress payments.

2.13 COMMUNICATION
Contractor shall provide the means (daytime telephone) for daily communication between City Light and the Contractor's office.

2.14 INVOICE
Invoices to be mailed monthly to:
