SUMMER 2014, FALL 2014, & ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/15 STUDY ABROAD AFFILIATE AWARDS
PREFACE
This application is to be used only for the scholarships below. The funding for these scholarships comes from two of our study abroad partners—Academic Programs International (API) and Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University (IFSA-Butler). UAA’s Office of International & Intercultural Affairs (OIIA) and its scholarship committee selects the students, but the awards will come from our study abroad partners and be applied to the study abroad program fees.
AWARDS ARE FOR THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS AND SEMESTERS:
Academic Programs International (API)
API has an award total of $1,000 to be divided between qualified students applying for
Summer 2014, Fall 2014, and AY 14/15
Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University (IFSA-Butler)
A possible award to qualified students applying for:
Summer 2014 of $500 Fall 2014 of $1,000 Academic Year 2014/15 of $2,000

APPLICATION criteria
The scholarship selection committee will consider academic excellence, demonstrated interest in the study abroad program of choice, and the extent to which the program will play an important role in the student’s academic, professional, and personal goals. In addition, the committee may consider financial need.
Applicants must:

Be a degree-seeking student with a declared major at UAA.

Be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (a higher GPA will generally increase the applicant’s competitiveness).

Have successfully completed at least one full-time semester at UAA prior to the award semester.

Have applied for the study abroad program of choice by the scholarship application deadline.
IMPORTANT
Scholarship awards are contingent upon acceptance to the study abroad program and are meant to be applied to the cost of the study abroad program. Awardees are expected to maintain program eligibility, good academic standing, and have a clean disciplinary record.
SCHOLARSHIP AGREEMENT
Scholarship recipients must be accepted by the study abroad program to which they have applied and enroll in the requisite number of credits for that program. Upon return, awardees also agree to complete a UAA exit interview or post-program survey and participate in at least one education abroad-related presentation.

Applications must be received in the Office of International & Intercultural Affairs,
RH 115, by the designated deadline.
Please refer to the cover pages for information about the awards, criteria, and agreements for scholarship recipients.

Application form

Personal statement (approximately 500 words) addressing the applicant’s interest in the chosen program; how the program relates to the applicant’s academic, professional, and personal goals; and mentioning any previous coursework or life experience that prepares the applicant for this experience. Financial need may be addressed.

One letter of recommendation from a UAA professor or academic advisor who can speak to the student’s academic abilities, maturity, and preparedness for study abroad. (Applicants may use a faculty recommendation submitted with their study abroad program application.)
