Summer Language and Culture Tour
August 9-14, 2010

Palm Beach Atlantic University
This summer Palm Beach Atlantic University will open its doors to a group of Japanese students to study English language and learn about American culture. This week-long program is designed to provide Japanese students with a dynamic short-term Intensive English course with fundamental in English grammar, listening, speaking and writing. Students will become familiar with American dialogue, vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. In addition, students will take part in interactive classroom activities aimed to boost confidence in verbal English skills.
In the afternoons, students will participate in local guided tours to local historical and cultural sites, including Flagler Museum, Lion Country Safari, City Place, Palm Beach Zoo, Worth Avenue, Palm Beach county parks and beaches. Throughout the formal instruction and informal cultural activities, emphasis will be placed on improving students’ pronunciation, articulation, and confidence. The aim of the program is to help its participants gain a better understanding of American culture and enhance their English language skills. Language instruction will be provided by John Duque, founder and director of Business Language Solutions, LCC, specializing in language instruction to non-native speakers.
Location and Venue

Palm Beach Atlantic University is a comprehensive, interdenominational Christian university founded in 1968. Palm Beach Atlantic is located in beautiful West Palm Beach overlooking Florida's Intracoastal Waterway. The campus is three hours from Disney World, two hours from Miami, and minutes from vibrant City Place (shopping and restaurants area) and, of course, the Atlantic Ocean.


Transportation, Accommodation and Meals

When making your flight arrangements, you should plan to fly into Palm Beach International Airport- PBI (15 minutes from campus), Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport - FLL (45 minutes from campus) or Miami International Airport - MIA (1.5 hours away from campus). Free pick-up from PBI airport or tri-rail station (local train services running between the MIA and FLL airport and West Palm Beach) can be arranged. Program participants will be placed in host families, who will provide breakfast and dinner to their guests. Lunch on campus will be provided on Tuesday through Friday.


Registration Fees and Deadlines

Please inquire about the program fees with your tour organizes in Japan. Registration forms must be received by Palm Beach Atlantic University by July 1st. Non-refundable $100.00 deposits must be submitted with the registration forms.
