SAMS Curriculum Overview

‘Learning together and having fun, there’s room here for everyone’

English / Literacy

Stories linked to our topic such as Rainbow Fish and Commotion in the Ocean. We will be exploring story writing, discussion and recount writing linked to writing across the curriculum e.g. Knowledge and Understanding of the World and Religious Education. Reading skills will be developed through weekly Reading and Letters and Sounds.



Maths

We will be using Numicon to help support our number work to 20. This term we will cover number bonds to 10, doubles, data handling and simple addition and subtraction.






RE / Values: Service, Respect and Reverence

Bible stories and Christian Life and Values: We will be learning about Jonah and the Whale and how the Christian belief that through prayer they can communicate with God, whom they cannot see, but who they are getting to know by praying.







  • General Guidance

    • PE is every Tuesday Please could we have PE kit in school at all times as lessons may need to be rearranged due to inclement weather. All items of clothing must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

    • Whilst every effort is made to see parents at your request it is preferred that parents make an appointment so that any issues can be discussed thoroughly, rather than just before school.

    • Please ensure your child has one healthy snack for snack time and a water bottle.

    If you feel you have any resources to complement any of the units, we would be most grateful to borrow them and use them to support learning, we would be very grateful. Thank you for your continued support

    Parent’s Role

    Sound Key rings with High Frequency words need to be in every Thursday and will be sent home on Friday, we will send a text each week on the high frequency words we have covered that week. Please ensure you revise these at home regularly with your child to help support rapid recall. Reading books will be changed every Friday, please ensure the reading records are signed in order for us to change them.



    Topic – Under the Sea

    • All skills taught in English and Maths will be applied across the curriculum and through our topic wherever possible.

    • Knowledge and Understanding of the World – Different sea creatures, maps and beaches

    • ICT – Digital Literacy and Multimedia

    • Creative Development – To use a range of materials and tools to make images, and explore practically and imaginatively visual, tactile and sensory qualities.

    • Music – Exploring a variety of different instruments

    • Physical Development – Sports day practice and Tennis

    • Welsh – Songs and poems linked to Ar Lan y Môr

    • PSD – Developing personal and social skills, alongside independence.
