VIKING FOOTBALL ’09 - - - REACHING FOR THE SUMMIT!
|
The 2009 Friends of Football Golf Outing has been scheduled for Saturday June 20th at Kings Mill Golf Course. The cost is $50 per golfer which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, and a chicken dinner. We will be using a scramble format with a shotgun start.
We are currently searching for hole sponsors. A hole sponsorship is $200, which provides for a sign at your hole’s tee and green and a banner displayed at home football games.
We are also looking for items to be donated for our post-golf auction.
We are trying to generate enough money from this golf outing to purchase a Rogers Equipment Blaster for use with our football team. The “Blaster” costs approximately $5,000. Additional money raised from this outing goes to pay for pay-to-participate fees, additional equipment, pre-game meals, and The Henry Roberts Memorial Scholarship.
|
If you would like to sign-up for the golf outing, sponsor a hole, donate an item for the post-golf auction, or have any questions, please contact Toby Reiff at 740-389-1740 or Kevin Mally at 740-341-9181
We are encouraging every parent to participate in this year’s golf outing. We hope to see everyone there!

The following football players have earned MERIT ROLL status for the second grading period of the 2008-09 school year: Tyler Dorfe, Aron Gibson, Trevor Miller, Clay Rollison, Chase Compton, Michael Koeppel, Cade Penix, and Josh Campbell.
Congratulations on all of your hard work!

2008 MOTOR CITY BOWL
On December 26th, the football team was treated to another outstanding Motor City Bowl as Florida Atlantic Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger remained undefeated in bowl games as his Owls defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas with a final score of 24-21.
We would like to thank Jim Campbell and John Rayner for battling the dense fog and Coach Lynch’s poor driving to return all of our Vikings home safely.
WEIGHT LIFTING
We are currently entering our second phase of off-season weight lifting. Weight lifting and conditioning is every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. All football player not involved in a spring sport are EXPECTED to attend.
|
EQUIPMENT DISTRIBUTION
Helmets, shoulders, jersey numbers, and all other equipment will be distributed to players based on their attendance rate at weight lifting. Players who attend all weight lifting sessions – regardless of grade level – will have the first opportunity to select jersey numbers and gear for the upcoming season. Players who miss weight lifting and conditioning sessions will be the last to select equipment. With this newsletter, you will find a list of testing results for our winter lifting phase. Note: Winter sport athletes were not tested during this phase of training.
The first day of equipment distribution will be on Wednesday June 3rd.
CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE WON IN THE OFF SEASON!

THE INTERVAL THAT CAUSES GREATNESS
Three things comprise the “Great Interval”: 1. Effort 2. Execution 3. Endurance
The longest play in a football – a long kickoff return is approximately 12 seconds in length. The shortest play is a no gain direct dive. Its duration is about 2.5 seconds in length. The average play is near 4 seconds.
When we say INTERVAL, we are talking about the time period from the ball snap that ignites us to 4 seconds later. Nothing else really matters in a game.
On average, offense runs 50 or so plays. Defense runs approximately the same. We are talking about 4x50, or 200 seconds, or about 3 ½ minutes a game. This comes out to just over ½ hour of full speed football a year.
When we say INTERVAL, we are asking if you will give EFFORT, EXECUTION, and ENDURANCE for River Valley Football – just 4 minutes worth a game, less than an hour a year.
A 4 second interval by every player on every play will make us a great team.
Listen and watch for the interval throughout practice.
We will become what we do!
Do the Interval!
You must be in superb physical condition to do the interval.

THANK YOU!
My wife, Theresa, and I would like to say thank you to all of you in the River Valley community for your kind words and support during the birth of our first daughter, Reagan Elizabeth.
Reagan was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, at 1:13pm. She came into the world weighing 7 lbs. 10 oz. and measured 20 inches.
Thanks again to everyone who was so thoughtful during this time. It is a privilege and a pleasure to be a part of such a caring and kind community. Bleed Blue! Coach Lynch
The River Valley FCA meets every Friday morning before school at 7:00am in the high school cafeteria. Everyone is welcome to attend.
