Morristown Airport, in conjunction with the Mid-Atlantic Aviation Coalition (MAAC), proudly hosted an Airport Day on Saturday, May 2nd. This was the second day of the 20th annual New Jersey State Aviation Conference with the theme being "Inspiring Aviation: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow". Attendees toured the Air Traffic Control Tower, Operations Center as well as the Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Department and participated in fire extinguisher training. Airport Snow Team members were on hand to explain how the Airport performs winter snow removal and offered a chance to get up close to the snow equipment.
The day’s agenda included guest speakers: Arnie Itzkowitz with “The Art and Business of Aerial Photography” and Dave Jones, of Delta Airport Consultants, Inc. who spoke about “GA Airplanes: Tools or Toys?” To cap the day, a free FAA Safety Seminar offered Wings credits for all licensed pilots.
The attendees who flew in were offered free aircraft parking and a fuel purchase discount from Signature Flight Support. All funds from the attendee registrations went to local aviation charities: Cleared for Takeoff (an aviation education camp), the Central Jersey Aviation Education Science Club, and the Morristown Airport Pilot’s Association.
For those who didn’t make the Airport Day event, there will be another opportunity to visit Morristown Airport (MMU) in the near future. MMU will be hosting the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airpower History Tour from Monday, June 1st- Wednesday, June 3rd. Known as the largest flying museum in the world, the CAF Airpower History Tour brings together the aircraft, pilots and crews from all over the country as well as the sights, sounds and smells of American air superiority during World War II. There will be the exciting opportunity to fly on the B-29 Superfortress and the C-45 Expeditor, a.k.a. “Bucket of Bolts”, as well as enjoy the tours of other historic aircraft such as the legendary P-51 Mustang. The tour will begin Monday, June 1st from 2-5 pm. Please see the website http://www.airpowersquadron.org/#!morristown-nj/c1ni8 for additional tour hours, tour fees and for information regarding the purchasing of flights on the aircraft.
